Rules and Requirements for Adoptions or Fosters
- NO animals will be adopted out for meat, breeding or dairy purposes. NO exceptions!
- As laws and ordinances concerning livestock vary from town to town, it is advisable to contact your local zoning board to learn what is legal in your specific area.
- Due to distance restraints, Cracker Box Palace rarely adopts any animal outside of New York State lines. Out of state adoptions will only be considered if there is another cooperating shelter in your area that can do inspections and follow ups and report to CBP.
- Return completed farm animal adoption form and written letter of recommendation to Cracker Box Palace at the above listed address. If more than one home is to be decided on, your application must be reviewed and approved by our board of directors. After form in submitted, you must schedule a home visit to be completed by a staff member of Cracker Box Palace to wherever the animal will be kept. After home visit, Adopter must work with the animal on the ground and under saddle (If applicable) for a minimum of 2 weeks alongside farm manager.
- If Foster Caring for an animal, there is a three-month trial period to 'try out' your animal and if at that time, you may decide to adopt or return your animal with CBP. Cracker Box Palace will keep the animals available for adoption and if a potential forever home is interested, the foster family will be contacted for introductions, to work with the animals and may move if a forever home is made available. Foster families will have the first option on adoption. All tax-deductible items should be discussed with an accredited accountant and copies of receipts submitted to CBP before December 31st of each calendar year.
- If a suitable animal is not readily available, all qualified parties will be notified when one arrives.
- There will be a six month and one year follow up visit from one of our staff members. CBP will always be available to help you with any questions or advice regarding your adoptee. If the adoption does not work out, you must return the animal to CBP. Animals adopted from CBP are required to be kept healthy and comfortable with a maintained medical and health record (immunizations, feed, healthcare etc CBP holds the right to take back such animal without refund if necessary and animal cruelty officials will be notified.
- Animals may be transported by CBP or a third-party transporter to your home for an additional charge. The distance traveled determines the amount.
- Pre-Purchase exams by your own veterinarian are encouraged at your cost. All animals will be fully vaccinated and wormed with regular farrier appointments. The new owner will receive copies of the animal’s veterinary
  records at the time of Foster or Adoption.
- Please note that with rare exceptions, farm animals live in social groups and will not be adopted to situations where they will live alone.
- Foster or Adoptive homes will receive a copy of the processed application and signed Rules and Requirements for Adopters or Fosters upon the animal leaving, along with medical records.
- Cracker Box Palace reserves the right to deny applications based on premises, references, or this application. Cracker Box Palace also reserves the right to deny applications based on conversations, mannerisms, actions, failure to comply with these rules, gestures or attitude that is contemptuous displayed during the application process.
- Cracker Box Palace will not adopt to a person that is trying to obtain the animal for another person. Cracker Box
  Palace will also not adopt to anyone suspected of abuse, neglect or convicted of a cruelty case.
- Unaltered animals will not be adopted to anyone that is trying to breed animals. No unaltered animals will go to a home where an unaltered animal of the opposite sex resides.
- All Animals Located at Cracker Box Palace May Have Been Exposed at Any Given Time to The Following: Caprine Arthritic Encephalitis, Caseous Lymphadinitis, Johnes Disease, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Coccidia and Meningeal Worm disease
