Mini-Grants Application Form

The Berkeley Disaster Preparedness Neighborhood Network and Collective Resilience are excited to be collaborating to pilot test this first mini-grants program. Funding will support projects for neighborhood groups and community facilities (places of worship, community centers, libraries, schools, etc) with the goals of preparing for natural and climate emergencies (earthquakes, fires, extreme heat, Super El Niño, etc), while building community ties.

Any and all creative ideas will be considered! We will prioritize applications which:
- Directly serve underserved neighborhoods and high-risk populations .
- Support the development of emerging or inactive neighborhood groups and/or
- Support trusted community sites which serve community members during natural or climate disasters ("resilience hubs")

Are you applying for a seed grant or implementation grant?

SEED GRANTS (up to $500):
- For new, emerging or inactive neighborhood groups; for support in launching preparedness events or projects, while strengthening community relationships
CULTIVATION GRANTS (up to $1000):
- For established neighborhood groups with an existing track record, wanting to expand or strengthen preparedness efforts and community relationships; OR
- Community facilities developing as resilience spaces and hubs

Please provide a brief (1-2 sentence) summary of the project you are hoping to implement through this grant funding (which we will be sharing on our website).
Background Information
Tell us about your group or organization and who you currently serve. Some guiding questions (you don't need to answer them all!):
- History and purpose: Why did your group or organization originally form (what is its purpose or mission)? How long have you been around?
- Community Engagement and Planning: Approximately how many people do you serve? What kinds of activities have you planned to build relationships with neighbors or community members? Have you surveyed community members to find out what they want and need, especially during disasters?
- Disaster Preparedness and Response: What are some examples of events or projects you have worked on related to disaster preparedness & response?
- Challenges: Have you experienced any challenges or barriers to your planning efforts? If you are applying for a seed grant, let us know where you are in the process of becoming a group (it's okay to say that you are just getting started!).

Tell us a bit about the neighborhood and the neighbors or community members you people you serve. Please share if you work with any high-risk groups, and if your neighborhood is considered a frontline community. Definitions of frontline communities and high-risk groups can be found on our website.
Project Description

Tell us about your project or event and how great it will be!
Here are some guiding questions (you don't need to answer all of them):
- What are the main goals?
- What are the main activities (which can include planning) and what is the estimated timeline for them?
- How will the project contribute to your neighborhood or site being better prepared for emergencies?
- How will it support strengthening neighborhood/community relationships?
- Will it support a specific type of emergency (such as extreme heat, heat or atmospheric rivers)?

Are there any specific populations you plan on working with, which could be considered high-risk? Please also share any groups or organizations that you plan on reaching out to, to collaborate on your project, if any. If you are applying as a seed grant and looking for mentors to help support your efforts, please let us know as well. (approximately 50 words)
Please share an estimated itemized budget for your project. The budget may include: emergency supplies, materials related to your resilience-building project or event, stipends for organizers and planning/training costs.
