The position
As a Technical Proposal Manager EPCM, you will lead the proposal phase for EPCM client projects during the initiation phase until contract signature, with the option to be based in either Essen, Germany, or Copenhagen, Denmark. This includes leading bidding and tendering processes, support negotiating contracts, and structuring complex projects within the syngas/gas industry. Additionally, you will contribute to internal investment projects focused on expanding catalyst production capacities and developing new products. By leveraging the latest technologies, you will ensure the successful delivery of these projects.
In your role as Technical Proposal Manager EPCM, you will be responsible for several key areas:
- Technically leading and coordinating the bidding/tendering phase with internal and external stakeholders
- Preparing technical proposal documents and collecting required input
- Defining project scopes, interfaces and battery limits
- Developing execution plans and work break down structure
- Ensuring the setup of time schedules
- Conducting risk assessments
- Establishing strategies for accurate project costing and budget planning
Furthermore, you will be in charge of coordinating technical matters with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective project planning regarding time, quality, and budget. Additionally, your responsibilities will include identifying and mitigating technical risks, ensuring project compliance with safety and quality standards. You will also support contract negotiations by developing detailed technical specifications and ensuring their integration into commercial and legal contracts.
The ideal candidate
The ideal candidate for the role of Technical Proposal Manager EPCM at Topsoe is an accomplished engineering professional, ideally with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a similar discipline, complemented by 10+ years of technical EPC project management experience in the proposal and execution phase of projects. It is important that the candidate holds expertise in the oil & gas/ petrochemical/ power plant industry or a related field and certification in project management (PMI or IPMA) is highly preferred. Moreover, the candidate is expected to excel in project management processes, including Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), battery limit definition, time scheduling, and execution planning, demonstrating strong skills in managing complex project elements.
With a strong ability to foresee potential challenges and address risks proactively, the ideal candidate combines strategic acumen with operational precision, guiding projects effectively from beginning to contract signature. As Topsoe’s new Technical Proposal Manager EPCM, you should possess strong interpersonal skills, allowing you to cultivate collaborative relationships with stakeholders and foster positive team dynamics. Technical proficiency in MS Office, MS Project or Primavera, and SAP R3 are required and additional skills in financial modeling or feasibility analysis are seen as a plus.
