The Texas Council of Alpha Chapters Educational and Scholarship Foundation was chartered as a non-profit corporation in 2016. The primary goal of the foundation is to promote scholarship and academic excellence among college brothers in the State of Texas. Funds for annual scholarship awards will be generated through various revenue initiatives staged under the direction of the Board of Directors of the Foundation. The Board will also oversee the application process and monitor the award process.
A Scholarship Committee appointed by the Board will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating the applications. Annual scholarship amounts will be set based on a recommendation by the Board and agreed upon by a majority vote of the Foundation.
Scholarship Requirements
All scholarship applicants must: (1) be an undergraduate Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., member in good standing; (2) have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 grading scale; and
(3) submit a completed application packet. Other factors to be considered in the application evaluation process include:
-Financial need
-Extracurricular activities
-Community service
-Special awards and recognition
-Personal Statement (Essay – content described on application page)
-Supporting documents (two letters of recommendation, & any other desired documents)
Instructions
All completed application packets must be received by the Scholarship Committee by the submission deadline February 4th, 2024. Each packet must include the following items:
1. A completed typed scholarship application form
2. A typed, double-spaced 1-2 page personal statement containing: (a) a brief biography about yourself; (2) a description of your academic and career goals; and (3) an explanation of why you deserve this scholarship. Originality, creativity and clarity will serve as the basis for judging personal statements.
3. An official copy of a college transcript. The document can be submitted electronically, but if application is mailed, the transcript must be in a sealed envelope.
4. Two Letters of recommendation from university representatives who can witness/verify the applicant’s character and commitment to academic success
Applications submitted after the announced deadline or packets not containing all of the elements listed above will be considered incomplete and will not be forwarded to the review committee or given further consideration.
Completed Application Packets can be submited online or mailed,must be postmarked by February 4th, 2024.
