    LPN Rehabilitation in Long Term Care Course
  • Course Objective

  • To provide advanced competency training to bridge the entry level competencies of Licensed Practical Nurse to the fulfill the role of LPN Rehabilitation Assistant in long term care facilities in New Brunswick. This role involves understanding and collaborating with the following specialties to optimize functioning for the resident of the nursing home: 

    • Speech Language Pathology (swallowing and communication referral requests) 
    • Physiotherapy 
    • Occupational Therapy 
    • Audiology  
    • Dietician (including nutrition and adaptive aids) 
  • Course Format

    • Hybrid model including online learning and onsite preceptorship with a mentor 
    • Theory Classes: 36 hours 
      • 12 course modules that include pre-recorded videos, readings and assignments using an online learning management program  
      • Minimum grade of 70% on all assignments is required to receive credit for course 
    • Preceptorship: 36 hours 
      • Supervised preceptorship with mentors working the role currently
      • 36 hours in total (over a minimum of five days onsite) 
    • Students have twelve months from date of registration to complete all course components (theory and preceptorship)
