  • About This Course

  • This introductory course is designed for managers of support service departments to introduce the long-term care system in New Brunswick and principles of supervision, leadership, human resource management and staff engagement.

    • Designed for support service managers or supervisors in nursing home settings including food service, recreation and activities, housekeeping, laundry and environmental service.
    • This intensive online course is done online in a group
    • The content is divided into discovery units that explore key skills and includes practical homework each week that involves skill translation through practical application.

  • Course Format

    • Classes begin April 2026
    • Classes are taught online using Zoom video conferencing, class may be recorded for participants if they are unable to attend
    • Classes are held weekly for two hours
    • Class time is expected to be Wednesdays from 9:30am to 11:30am
  • Fees

  • This course is funded under the New Brunswick Nursing Home Learning Campus with free tuition for all support service managers working in leadership roles in New Brunswick nursing homes.

    Confidentiality: Students are encouraged share personal reflections and experiences to further their own
    learning and foster group participation. Such information will be considered confidential and will not be shared
    outside of this learning experience by students and/or instructors.

    Attendance: It is expected that students will make every effort to be in class each week. Please be prepared to
    be present from beginning to end as being present for the entire session facilitates a better group experience. If
    you are unable to attend or will be late, please notify the course instructor via email prior to class.

    Class Recordings: Classes will be recorded if at least one student is absent. Class recordings will be shared via
    weblink. The weblink will be valid for 7 days, password protected and encrypted to prevent downloading.

    Be Stationary: Please be prepared to participate from a stationary spot. Participation from a moving vehicle,
    while on a walk, etc. is not ideal for this type of learning experience. 

    Full Engagement: Please have both your video and audio on through your computer, laptop, or mobile device
    and we encourage you to use headphones (not computer speakers) to enable the best experience for yourself
    and others.

    Full Presence: Please eliminate notifications, distractions, or anything that will take your attention from the
    experience. We do make an exception for lunch/snacks/drinks! Feel free to enjoy some nourishment as we chat
    together.  

    Course Grading: Participants are required to attend class and complete the homework assignments to be given
    credit for the course. The course is a pass/fail grading format. Upon successful completion of the course,
    students are awarded a certificate of completion.
