The Department of Parks and Recreation offers a range of scholarship opportunities for children 17 years of age or younger, designed to enhance participation in recreation programs, swim safety, and recreation swim activities. These scholarships are available to City of Palmdale residents living within city limits and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, limited by the availability of donated funds.
Scholarships are offered across various seasons: the recreational scholarship is available four times a year for spring, summer, fall and winter; the swim safety scholarship is offered once annually during the summer season (May-August); and the recreation swim scholarship, also available in the summer, provides $25 towards a recreation swim membership.
For each child per immediate family, an award can be granted per season. Recipients of summer recreational scholarships are ineligible for swim safety scholarships in the same season but can apply for the recreation swim and/or Dusty's Kid's scholarship programs. Conversely, swim safety scholarship recipients cannot receive a recreation scholarship in the same period but may qualify for the Recreation Swim or Dusty's Child scholarship programs. The Recreation Swim scholarship, offering a $25 credit, allows for other scholarship applications and can be used for a 10-20-or-40 pack membership refillable throughout the season at any pool location.
The maximum scholarship amount does not exceed 50% of the total registration fee, excluding additional costs like material fees and uniforms. Scholarship funds are strictly for the season awarded and cannot be refunded as cash or credit. Applicants must create an Active Net account at www.PlayPalmdale.com before submission, where approved funds will be credited.
Exclusions apply across the scholarships: recreational scholarships do not cover scuba diving, private swim lessons, swim safety programs, adult classes or sports, or memberships. Swim safety scholarships also exclude scuba and private swim lessons, while Recreation Swim scholarships are not valid for lap swim, swim lessons, or other recreation programming. Each child within a household must submit a separate application for the chosen scholarship program.
