  • Physical Readiness: Crew Members

  • The CBYCC crews will work on a variety of projects including those that focus on silviculture, wildlife and fisheries, facilities maintenance, recreation, fuels reduction, trail development, weed management, stream restoration, and protection of heritage and other high conservation value sites. The intent is that work provides a valuable experience for the crew and a productive task for the sponsoring partner. The work projects are centered around field work in remote locations and can be quite rigorous. The weather can range from very hot to cold and wet, and the terrain varies from flat to steep and uneven ground.

  • Work Schedule

    • The 2023 CBYCC season will begin June 14, 2023 and end August 3, 2023*. Crew members and a parent/guardian will be required to attend a pre-season youth-parent orientation meeting.

    *Dates are tentative based on current scheduling

    If hired, crew members will work:

    • 40 hours per week.
    • Monday through Thursday, 
    • From 6:00 am to 4:30 pm each day.

    All positions are responsible for their transportation to and from the crew meeting point each day. For crew members, the crew leader will transport the crew from the meeting point to and from the job site and will remain with the
    crew throughout the day.

  • Personal Supplies: Crew Members

  • The CBYCC provides all training, protective gear, basic tools, as well as all supervision and management. Each crew member is responsible for their own personal gear including sturdy pants, long- and short-sleeved shirts, an extra change of clothes, rain gear, hat, sunscreen, day pack, medications, snacks, lunch, water bottle, and good quality work boots that meet the following specifications at minimum:

    • Lace up type design
    • 6-inch top (top of boot to heel)
    • Non-slip rubber lug sole (Vibram or similar) with decent tread for walking on dirt and mud.
    • All leather or constructed from cut resistant material to protect from cuts when using tools.

  • Young men and women, ages 16 through 18, who are permanent residents of the United States are eligible for employment without regard to social, economic, racial, or ethnic background. Youth must have no history of serious criminal or other antisocial behavior that might endanger their safety or that of others. Employment is without regard to Civil Service or classification laws, rules, or regulations. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
