Overview
College Steps is hiring for part-time Support Specialists across multiple locations. This individual will provide direct, hands-on support to young adults with learning differences as they navigate the academic, social, and personal demands of post-secondary education. The Support Specialist is a frontline role within the College Steps model — working closely with students, Peer Mentors, and Instructional Coordinators to ensure that each student has the day-to-day support they need to thrive. This is a part-time position with flexible scheduling designed to accommodate candidates balancing other professional or academic commitments.
Job Title: Support Specialist (Hourly)
The Support Specialist will provide individualized, direct support to College Steps students at their assigned location. The primary focus will be on assisting students with academic tasks, daily organizational challenges, social navigation, and skill-building toward greater independence — all within a strengths-based, student-centered framework.
Position Requirements:
A commitment to work at least 2 semesters
Maintain a minimum schedule of 18-20 hours per week during programming hours
Attend weekly group supervision meetings
Attend 3-4 training hours per semester by sign-up
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field preferred; candidates currently enrolled in a related degree program will be considered
- Experience working with individuals with learning differences, developmental disabilities, autism, or similar populations preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills with a genuine commitment to supporting young adults with diverse needs
- Patient, flexible, and strengths-based approach to working with students
- Ability to take direction from supervisors and work collaboratively within a team
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Availability to work part-time hours across an agreed-upon schedule at an assigned College Steps location
- Familiarity with post-secondary education settings is a plus
- Personal experience with learning differences or neurodiversity is welcomed and valued
