    The Crawford Fund Henzell Awards
The Crawford Fund is calling for applications for its inaugural 2025 Crawford Fund Henzell Awards from undergraduate students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents in their second or subsequent year at an Australian university.

The closing date for applications has been extended to COB, Monday 26 May 2025.

We strongly recommend you read the general background information before you start your application.

With the support of Ted and Frances Henzell and family, the Crawford Fund is offering national awards to fund brief visits by Australian undergraduate students to international agricultural research projects in developing tropical countries in the Asia Pacific Region (see designated list in the backgrounder), Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique and Madagascar.

The applicants can come from any undergraduate degree at an Australian university which would enable them to contribute to agricultural research for development in the tropics, please note the application will include a request to explain how their degree sets them up to contribute. Students can come from a broad range of degrees beyond agriculture – social sciences, economics, gender, health, communication, business, finance - as we understand that international agricultural research needs skills far beyond the usual traditional studies in agricultural science.

This short online application form will require you to attach a brief CV, include a note of support for your application from either someone who is involved in the proposed project/activity to be visited, or someone who knows your abilities and interest in ongoing study or a career related to food and nutrition security – additional academic and personal references can also be provided. Those who are identifying a project will be asked to complete the budget template.*

This is a saveable form. Simply click the 'Save & Continue Later' option underneath the question you are working on.

You will be emailed a link that you can use to return to your saved information at a later date.

    All the best of luck.

Describe how you propose to link with the host project and describe how that matches the objectives of the award – that is, provide clear justification as to why you think the visit will encourage your ongoing interest in further study or a career related to food and nutrition security. While international agricultural research is designed to assist the country where it is conducted, effective projects are of mutual benefit to the home country. Please explain your understanding of the mutual benefit (to your State/Territory or to Australia more generally) of the project you would be visiting. Up to 300 words.

For example, have you identified staff at your university who are already involved in international agriculture for development; searched the ACIAR website for projects associated with your area of interest, or for projects in which your university is engaged; or, searched the Crawford Fund website for recent work we have supported by your university? All these suggestions can help you to identify researchers who have previously travelled and may be of assistance with project and travel details. Up to 300 words.
