Champion Award

The Donate Life Champion Awards are intended to recognize members of the sports/athletic community who have had a significant impact on organ, tissue and eye donation. Nominees may have done any or all of the following:

Been personally touched by the cause as a donor family, living donor, recipient, family member of someone who died waiting, etc. and motivated others to join a donor registry through donor drives, social media, traditional media, email blasts, personal testimonies, etc.
Works to inspire others to Donate Life.
Volunteered their name, position or fame to promote the cause of organ, eye and tissue donation.

Each state team submitting Donate Life Champion nominations will receive a minimum of one (1) award to present and possibly more. The process of determining which award nominations are given priority will be based on several factors, including but not limited to:

Past level of outreach by nominee and/or donor designations attributable to nominee
Plans for (traditional) media outreach and publicity in the award presentation
Plans for social media outreach in the award presentation, particularly promoting state donor registries on social media profiles affiliated with the award recipient (personal, team, school, etc.)

Presenting awards in public forums is encouraged, particularly those with large numbers of attendees from within the established community of the award nominee. Strongly supported forums include media conferences and televised or otherwise-broadcast events.

Nominees and their supporters should be encouraged to showcase the award through social media and invite fans to join their state’s donor registry using the hashtags #DLChampion and #FansForLife. Use of a unique URL to link to the state’s online donor registry or the National Donate Life Registry at RegisterMe.org is ideal for social media promotion, allowing for tracking of donor registrations inspired by the Donate Life Champion Award.
