Welcome to the Guardian Home Program at Big House K9!
We are thrilled that you're considering joining our Guardian Home Program. This opportunity is more than just bringing a dog into your life—it's about becoming an integral part of our mission to raise exceptional puppies that make a difference. Before you apply, it's essential to understand the full scope of what it means to be a Guardian Home.
Puppies, much like human babies, come with their own set of challenges. They may cry, bark, and have accidents at inconvenient times, regardless of their training or upbringing. They require significant attention, love, and ongoing effort to thrive. Prospective Guardian families should be prepared to dedicate frequent time and energy to their puppy's care and engagement. Regular grooming is crucial, especially for Doodles, to manage their long coats and prevent matting that can cause discomfort.
It's important to note that no puppy is consistently calm. Puppies are naturally high-energy and their activity levels can vary, but expecting a perpetually calm companion may lead to disappointment. If you're seeking a consistently serene presence, an adult dog or a cat might better suit your needs.
At Big House K9, we start your puppy off with the right training and impulse control. With your continued commitment to these practices, you'll help your puppy develop into a well-mannered, easy-going adult. Typically, it takes around two years for puppies to mature and mellow out.
This application may be detailed, but it’s designed to ensure you fully understand the responsibilities involved and to assess if your home is a good fit for our Guardian Puppies. There are no wrong answers—it's all about finding the right match.
Our Guardian Home Program offers a unique opportunity to raise one of our top-quality puppies as a cherished family member. As a small, family-run business, we cannot house all our breeding dogs on-site, which is why we rely on our community to provide loving homes for these potential future parents. Your role includes caring for the dog throughout its breeding career and possibly into retirement. While you will cover the typical costs of care and medical expenses, Big House K9 will handle all reproductive testing and breeding-related expenses between the ages of 12-24 months.
Being a Guardian Home comes with its rewards and responsibilities. You’ll receive one of our best puppies or a pick-of-the-litter puppy from another reputable breeder. Our commitment to you includes free group training sessions at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, as well as ongoing support to ensure the success and well-being of your puppy.
The selection process for Guardian Families is thorough. We conduct detailed telephone interviews and home visits (initially via Zoom then in person) to ensure the best fit for our dogs. The success of our program depends on the quality of care provided, and we strive for nothing but the best for our canine companions.
Thank you for considering this rewarding journey with Big House K9. We look forward to the possibility of working together to provide a loving and supportive home for our future stars.
