• DC Solar Training, Vermont 2026

  • Thanks for your interest in Living Energy Lights' 2026 DC Solar Training!

This program will take place July 24, 25, 26 in Montpelier, Vermont. Topics covered by the program will include:

    • Green building and solar thermal systems for space and water heating
    • Direct drive systems, including system design, sourcing DC equipment, and appliance conversion
    • 12VDC battery systems
    • Intro to biogas production

We will be installing a DC solar system for a small tiny house village on a mountainside in Central Vermont. The system will include a direct drive fridge, insulated solar cooker, and a 100 AH Nickel-Iron battery bank for lights, fans, a wifi router, and device charging. The system will be installed in a passive solar, highly insulated cabin that is 100% off grid and will be used by all residents of the village.

This tiny home community, known as Hunter's Hollow by its residents, grows food, hosts community gatherings, and builds simple tiny houses on trailers for people seeking affordable housing solutions in our region (www.dandelionhousingproject.com). Their community welcomes all genders, and has a special emphasis on providing safe and inclusive spaces for queer and trans folks. They push the boundaries of low-cost rural living so that we have the time to follow our passions and foster our spiritual connection to the natural world.

At this workshop you will camp in the forest, eat delicious home-cooked meals, and jump in the beautiful mountain stream when it's time to get clean. Swimming holes and mountain trails are a half-mile walk from the property.

This program is being offered at a sliding scale. We ask for a $150 minimum donation to cover our expenses including food, travel for the LEL crew, and stipends for our instructors and cooks. If you can offer more, please do. If this cost is a problem for you, reach out and we'll see what we can do. Donations are tax deductible.

Spots are limited to 12 participants, and we will prioritize applicants with an intention to apply DC Microgrid technology in their communities. Applications are due June 1 and if you are accepted, we'll let you know by June 15.
