Coach Moreau has received various accolades over his coaching career. He has been awarded LHSAA Coach of the Year three times, which is the greatest accolade bestowed upon a coach in the state of Louisiana. Of his various distinctions, the Casey Kozminski Award, given by the Louisiana Athletics Writers Association, is one of the most prestigious. This award honours excellent contribution to high school sports as well as a constructive interaction between the media and coaches in the state of Louisiana.
According to Deborah Surgi, coaches Convention is held yearly in the summer and is open to all members of the Louisiana High School Coaches Association. Following the epidemic, the event, which was last hosted in Baton Rouge in 2017, was transferred to Shreveport for two years before being shifted to a virtual location. The event, which will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Baton Rouge this July, will return this year. Another award given to Coach Anderson is the distinction of having moulded a large number of athletes in the state. Throughout his coaching career at Acadiana and Crowley High Schools, he consistently produced winners. He is now employed as the Athletic Director for Lafayette Parish Schools. Coach Simmons is also a well-known track and field referee around the state, in addition to his coaching duties. He has worked as a referee in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Track & Field Championships for numerous years.
Throughout his coaching career, Doug Stewart has garnered a number of honors. In 1989, he was appointed as the LHSAA Track and Field Coordinator, and he has coached a large number of student athletes in the Acadiana region. His name is inscribed on the St. Michael High School wall of honor, and his coaching efforts have had a positive influence on the lives of many young athletes to this day. And we are honored to pay tribute to his many achievements. It is expected that he would be missed by his teammates and family.
The Gauthier Amedee American Legion squad in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, was another honor he received during his tenure as its head coach. He coached his team to the Louisiana state title in 2018 and to the semifinals of the American Legion World Series in the same year.
Deborah Surgi pointed out that Tommy Badon has received several honors during his sports coaching career. Following his graduation from Teurlings Catholic in 1981, he went on to become a three-sport standout, receiving All-State accolades in basketball and football. In addition, he went on to become the head Jumps and Combined Events coach for the United States Lacrosse League. During his time there, he worked on the Ragin Cajuns jumping program. Among those he coached were 18 NCAA individual champions as well as two World Triple Jump Champions, Walter Davis and John Moffit, as well as an Olympic Silver medallist in the long jump.
Miguel Rodriguez was born on October 9, 1930, in the Louisiana town of LeCompte. He went to Louisiana College as well as Louisiana High School, where he graduated in 1984. After that, he spent almost four decades as a teacher at Oak Hill High School. His track teams won 21 District Championships and six runner-up places during that time period, which he spent coaching. In all, he has been voted Coach of the Year by the Louisiana High School Coaches Association on three separate occasions.
Pete Boudreaux was named the Louisiana High School Coach of the Year at the NHSACA national conference, which took place this past weekend. Following his award-winning performance, Mike continued to work in the field of track and field. Techniques magazine, where he served as Executive Editor, and the Coaching Symposium at USTFCCCA congresses, where he directed the Coaching Symposium The United States Track and Field Coaches Association hired him later on, and he went on to represent the state of Georgia in the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. Mr. Roque is married to Gretta Roque, with whom he has thirteen grandkids. In addition, there are two great grandkids.
In Deborah Surgi’s opinion, other state awards, in addition to those for basketball, football, and baseball, reward exceptional sports coaches and individuals. Coaching greatness has been acknowledged three times in the state of Louisiana by the National High School Coaches of the Year program. The award is given only once a year and is highly sought after by both players and coaches. The high school sports and activities organization of the state of Louisiana has the authority to propose a coach. The State Coaches Organization must make the nominations, which must be authorized by the executive director of the state athletic/activities association before they may be considered.
Wally Smith began his career as a teacher and athletic director in the New Orleans public school system before transferring to Baton Rouge Magnet School, where he continued to coach football. Since then, his teams have won three straight Class 5A state titles, as well as the Indoor State Track Championship, under his guidance. The coach's enthusiasm for sports goes beyond the classroom and the school, as seen by his wife, Becky, who hosts weekly prayer groups for young people.
