Team Selector

Ahead of the 2026 Melbourne International 3 Day Event (4 – 8 June), Equestrian WA (EWA) and Eventing WA are seeking nominations for Riders, State Teams Competition (2* class riders) and also positions of Team Selectors (three to five position available) and Chef D’Equipe (one position available).

Please note, that both Team Selectors and Chef D’Equipe are voluntary positions ie Travel, accommodation etc. are at cost to the successful nominees.

Interested applicants must complete a online nomination form and submit together with their résumé and other supporting documentation for consideration and appointment by a Sports Appointment Panel.

The Sports Appointment Panel will consist of Discipline and Equestrian WA representatives.

The Selection Committee is to select rider/horse combinations for the 2026 Melbourne International 3 Day Event.

The Selection Committee will be expected to address appropriate selection issues that may arise from time to time that relate to the selection process.

The Selection Committee tasks are to be performed confidentially, impartially, independently, and autonomously without interference or influence from any source.

The Selection Committee must meet by 25 May 2026 to shortlist team to represent Western Australia, with the final team announced after first trot up at Melbourne 3 Day.

The position of Selector must be filled by a current EWA member meeting the following general criteria:

• Good administrative and computer skills.
• Possess an ability to analyse equestrian competition performance data.
• Demonstrated or proven ability to work as a team.
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
• Ability to work autonomously whilst being part of a team.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Attention to detail.
• Willing to be accountable for their actions and prepared to justify tough decisions.
• Prepared to make hard, yet fair, decisions and prepared to convey those decisions to the people affected.

Applications are welcome from members who meet one or more of the following:

• Have actively participated in Eventing at a State level as a FEI, National Level 2 or 3 Technical Delegate (which can include Dressage Officials or Jumping Officials) and can assess Eventing performances and identify talented horses and riders.
• Have actively participated in Eventing at a State level as a rider (preferable experience to 3*) and can assess Eventing performances and identify talented horses and riders.
• Have actively participated in Eventing at a State level as a coach/trainer (Level II/III with proven results) and can assess Eventing performances and identify talented horses and riders.
• Preferred that the applicant is not a member of the Eventing WA Committee.

A conflict of interest arises when a person is serving or attempting to serve two or more interests which are not compatible.

It is essential that the position of a Sport Selector be above any criticism of perceived or actual conflict of interest or bias.

Sport Selectors cannot be considered for team selection as a rider for the duration they hold the position.

Selectors MUST declare a conflict of interest in the following cases but not limited to:

• If they are riders of horses with potential for selection.
• If they are owners or part-owners of horses with potential for selection.
• If they are a person having a financial interest in a horse with potential for selection.
• Are a close relative of a rider or owner of a horse with potential for selection.
• Are an employee or employer of a competitor connected with a horse with potential for selection.
• Are professional coaches, or instructors of potential Team members or other State Teams.

A declaration to this effect will be required and made at the time of nomination. The Selector with a foreseen conflict will be asked to leave the room for specific decisions surrounding the conflict
