Come & See Leadership Retreat
  • Come & See Leadership Retreat

A FREE retreat for interested group leaders who want to experience Esperanza for the first time, and returning leaders who want to deepen their international leadership skills.
  • Ever wondered what Esperanza is about? Have questions about bringing your own group and want to experience it for yourself first? Or are you an experienced leader and looking to grow your knowledge and share your expertise? Then this is the retreat for you!

Esperanza will be providing this retreat for FREE!

    Registration is required.

    What will we do?

We will volunteer for half a day, eat (YUM!), and have sessions/ workshops regarding leading an Esperanza trip. Topics will range from trip preparation details, group formation, fundraising,  and trip specific details per group type to topics around border issues and how Esperanza works with families and communities. A more official schedule will be sent to you as dates get closer.

Suggested Arrival is on Friday, February 12th. We will begin our retreat volunteering with a family at a worksite on Saturday morning.

Suggested Departure is after 5pm on Sunday, February 14th or any time on February 15th, depending when your flight is (if flying). Our last session will end between 1 and 3pm on Sunday and it's important to account for border crossing times.

  • INSURANCE

"Neither Esperanza International nor Fundacion Esperanza de Mexico nor the Esperanza Medical Center carry any kind of medical insurance for volunteer groups. We require all volunteers to have international health insurance during the duration of their trip. Specifically, we ask that participants have insurance that covers emergency evacuation, repatriation, and emergency medical care. We require group leaders to send Esperanza’s program director Programs@EsperanzaInt.org a certificate of proof of insurance at least one week before the trip start date."

Since part of the Come & See leadership retreat will be volunteering, we are asking group leaders provide their own insurance during this time. Expected costs if using one of the often suggested insurances, may be as little as $10-$50 for the duration of the trip, depending on the company you choose, or you may already have some available through your current medical insurance.

You can view more information and our requirements at esperanzaint.org/insurance

  • Please check that you are aware you need to purchase your own international travel health insurance for this trip*
  • TRANSPORTATION

Esperanza will provide transportation between our volunteer facility, La Posada Esperanza where you will be staying, and the worksite. However you are responsible for getting yourself to and from La Posada. Most people outside of SoCal will be flying into the San Diego airport, walking across the border, and taking a short Uber from the border. If there are enough travelers at the same time, Esperanza may offer pick up and drop off at the Tijuana side of the border. We are happy to assist you in arranging these details. Please contact Melina at programs@esperanzaint.org if you have any questions or need support with travel guidance.

  • After you register, our program director, Melina, will reach out to you with further details. We are so excited to be working with you and thank you for your support of Esperanza! Muchas gracias!
