  • FAMU National Alumni Association Washington, DC Chapter Scholarship Application

  • The Washington, DC Chapter of the FAMU National Alumni Association annually awards scholarships to students from the Greater Washington, DC Metropolitan Area.  

    These awards are available to current high school students who have applied to FAMU and current FAMU students. 

    Submit the completed application packet via the Online Application Portal only.

    Emailed or mailed applications will not be accepted.

    DEADLINE: Completed applicaton must be submitted by March 15, 2026.

  • Scholarship Details

  • An applicant must be a graduating high school senior or an enrolled full time undergraduate or graduate student from the Washington, DC metropolitan area (which includes Washington, DC, Maryland areas of Prince George's and Montgomery Counties and Northern Virginia) attending Florida A&M University (FAMU). To be considered, a student must possess a minimum grade point average of 2.75 (C+) on a 4.0 scale.

  • General Instructions

  • Please read the following information before completing this application. The Scholarship Committee will not consider any application that is not completed as instructed below.

    A completed application consists of:

    1. Completed application form (via online submission site)

    2. Two letters of recommendation on official letterhead (non-relatives only, one letter must be from a teacher, counselor or formal academic advisor)

    3.A copy of SAT or ACT scores (high school students only)

    4. Most recent OFFICIAL or UNOFFICAL Transcript

    5. A copy of letter of acceptance to Florida A&M University (high school students only). If your letter of acceptance is not available as of March 15, please include a letter from the Admissions Office stating your application is in process, in lieu of the acceptance letter. Your scholarship application will be considered temporarily complete. However, the application will not be considered complete until an official acceptance letter is provided. 


    6. Copy of the FAFSA certificate of eligibility with family income and expected family contribution. Page 1 and 2 only 

    7. Documentation of school/university leadership/extracurricular activities, community service and/or proof of employment (awards, letters, news clippings, certificates, etc).

    8.Completed essay (must be typed)

    9.FERPA – Consent to release student information to verify student’s enrollment for distribution of funds.

    10.Personal interview (optional at committee’s request for final contenders)

  • I certify that all information provided is true and complete. I understand that it is my responsibility to provide proof of enrollment at FAMU in order to receive a scholarship award. I agree that Florida A&M University National Alumni Association, Inc. – Washington, DC Chapter may use my name and any subsequent images for publicity if I am selected as a scholarship recipient. Further, if selected for a scholarship award, I agree to maintain contact with the Washington, DC Chapter by submitting a status report, at a minimum, within 30 days of the end of each academic semester for which I receive financial support. The status report should be mailed to the address found on page 1 of this application.

  • FERPA CONSENT TO RELEASE STUDENT INFORMATION

  • Please provide information from the educational records of the student stated below to FAMU NAA Washington DC Chapter Scholarship Chair person, to whom the educational records will be released, and if appropriate the relationship to the student such as “parents” or “prospective employer” or “attorney”]
    (Note: this Consent does not cover medical records held solely by Student Health Services or the Counseling Center – contact those offices for consent forms.)
