Sovereignty in Motion

First Americans Museum’s annual Indigenous Peoples Day celebration is a free, campus-wide event recognizing Indigenous Peoples Day in Oklahoma City through art, movement, cultural expression, wellness, and community connection.

This year’s theme, Sovereignty in Motion, explores the ways Indigenous communities embody movement in daily life- through physical activity, creative practice, cultural traditions, intergenerational knowledge, collective care, and self-determination.

Throughout the day, visitors will experience large scale outdoor activations, artist showcases, community resources, performances, interactive activities, food vendors, and family friendly programming across the museum campus.

We invite artists, presenters, performers, organizations, volunteers, vendors, and partners to help shape this year’s event.

What does "Sovereignty in Motion" mean? 

Sovereignty is more than governments or treaties. It is the everyday ways Indigenous Nations continue to exercise self-determination through language, art, movement, education, wellness, community, and caring for one another. Throughout Indigenous Peoples Day 2026, you'll discover many different expressions of sovereignty in motion.

Please Note: Indigenous Peoples Day 2026 will not include an artisan or retail vendor market. Due to the variety of programming and activities taking place across the museum campus, participation for this event is limited to information booths, performances, presentations, demonstrations, and other community engagement opportunities.

Accident Waiver and Release of Liability

I HEREBY ASSUME ALL OF THE RISKS OF PARTICIPATING IN ANY/ALL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS EVENT, including by way of example and not limitation, any risks that may arise from negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons or entities being released, from dangerous or defective equipment or property owned, maintained, or controlled by them, or because of their possible liability without fault. I certify that I am physically fit, have sufficiently prepared or trained for participation in this activity, and have not been advised to not participate by a qualified medical professional. I certify that there are no health-related reasons or problems which preclude my participation in this activity. I acknowledge that this Accident Waiver and Release of Liability Form will be used by the event holders, sponsors, and organizers of the activity in which I may participate, and that it will govern my actions and responsibilities at said activity. In consideration of my application and permitting me to participate in this activity, I hereby take action for myself, my executors, administrators, heirs, next of kin, successors, and assigns as follows: (A) I WAIVE, RELEASE, AND DISCHARGE from any and all liability, including but not limited to, liability arising from the negligence or fault of the entities or persons released, for my death, disability, personal injury, property damage, property theft, or actions of any kind which may hereafter occur to me including my traveling to and from this activity, THE FOLLOWING ENTITIES OR PERSONS: First Americans Museum Foundation, and/or their directors, officers, employees, volunteers, representatives, and agents, and the activity holders, sponsors, and volunteers; (B) INDEMNIFY, HOLD HARMLESS, AND PROMISE NOT TO SUE the entities or persons mentioned in this paragraph from any and all liabilities or claims made as a result of participation in this activity, whether caused by the negligence of release or otherwise.

I acknowledge that the First Americans Museum Foundation (FAMF) and their directors, officers, volunteers, representatives, and agents are NOT responsible for the errors, omissions, acts, or failures to act of any party or entity conducting a specific activity on their behalf. I acknowledge that this activity may involve a test of a person's physical and mental limits and carries with it the potential for death, serious injury, and property loss. The risks include, but are not limited to, those caused by terrain, facilities, temperature, weather, condition of participants, equipment, vehicular traffic, lack of hydration, and actions of other people including, but not limited to, participants, volunteers, monitors, and/or producers of the activity. These risks are not only inherent to participants but are also present for volunteers and spectators. I hereby consent to receive medical treatment which may be deemed advisable in the event of injury, accident, and/or illness during this activity.

The Accident Waiver and Release of Liability Form shall be construed broadly to provide a release and waiver to the maximum extent permissible under applicable law.

Photo and Audio/Video Release

I hereby give First Americans Museum Foundation, operator of the First Americans Museum, and its employees, designees, agents, licensees, subcontractors, and authorized representatives permission to photograph, film, record, and/or otherwise capture my image, likeness, and/or voice (collectively, the “Materials”), and I hereby irrevocably grant to it and its affiliated entities, successors, and assigns (collectively, the “Museum Group”), the right to copyright, publish, reproduce, and otherwise use the Materials and my name and identification (as stated below) for lawful purposes related to the First Americans Museum. There are no time or geographical limitations on this grant of rights. I hereby forever release each member of the Museum Group from any claims and causes of action, now known or later discovered, for, among other things, invasion of privacy, right of publicity, and defamation, arising out of the use of the Materials as authorized by this Release. I have completely read and fully understand and agree to all of the provisions of this Release. I am fully authorized to give this permission and release. I waive any right to inspect or approve the Materials as to their use by any member of the Museum Group. I am the parent/guardian of the minor whose name appears below and am responsible (together with the other undersigned person, if any) for the sole care, custody, and control of such minor. I understand that the minor’s mage, likeness, and/or voice will be photographed, filmed, recorded or otherwise captured by or on behalf of the Museum Group. I have read and fully understand and agree to the provisions of this Release on behalf of the minor. My name and contact information is as stated above.
