  • Code of Conduct and Expectations for Coaches & Volunteers

     1. Sportsmanship & Conduct

All coaches, team managers, dugout managers and any other volunteers shall be held to the following standards:

All coaches and volunteers shall conduct themselves in a manner that sets a positive example for players, parents, and spectators while also demonstrating respect toward officials, opposing coaches, players, league staff, and other volunteers at all times. Coaches and volunteers are expected to refrain from using abusive, threatening, or inappropriate language or behavior in any Henry County Athletics sanctioned setting, including games, practices, meetings, banquets, or any other team activity. Failure to comply with these standards and expectations will result in disciplinary actions based on the guidelines set forth in the Three Strike Policy.

    2. Player Development & Safety

All coaches and volunteers are expected to place the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of players above competition and personal desire to win. Under no circumstance should any coach or volunteer knowingly compromise the health or well-being of a player by forcing or allowing them to participate injured or physically ill. Coaches and volunteers should do their best to ensure that all players participate in a safe environment and follow all Fairview Youth Athletics and facility rules. The ultimate goal is for all coaches and volunteers to promote teamwork, fair play, skill development, and good character.

    3. Coaching Responsibilities

Coaches are expected to attend all required meetings in-person or by phone, complete required certifications, and communicate promptly with league officials in situations that require such. Coaches are expected to arrive on time for practices and games and ensure adequate supervision before and after team activities. Coaches also are responsible for ensuring all players receive reasonable playing time in accordance with league guidelines. Coaches will be responsible for communicating practice schedules, game schedule, and team specific information or unless the coach decides to delegate this responsibility to another volunteer during the course of the season which is highly encouraged. The board does encourage coaches to have at least 1-3 volunteers to assistant them and their team as needed. Examples of those roles are assistance coach, team manager, dugout coordinator, and scorekeeper. All volunteers must complete a background with Henry County before the first scheduled game of the season.

    4. Interactions with Parents & Officials

Coaches and volunteers shall maintain open, respectful communication with parents and guardians. In no circumstance shall a coach or volunteer confront officials, staff, or parents in an aggressive manner. If there is a conflict or issue coaches are expected to follow the proper protocol for lodging concerns or complaints. Coaches are expected to help manage parent behavior and uphold the Parent Code of Conduct. Coaches, volunteers, and parents can and will be asked to leave the field for any aggressive behavior at the discretion of the head umpire.

    5. Compliance with Rules

All coaches and volunteers shall follow all league rules, regulations, and procedures established by Fairview Youth Athletics and Henry County Parks & Recreation. Any violation of rules or conduct expectations may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or removal from coaching duties.
