The tradition of choosing a new name at Confirmation goes back to the days of the early Church. As members of different communities became Christians, they would change their “pagan” names, often based on local gods or other deities, to a name of someone they admired in the local Church. Later, these model Christians became known as saints, and they became guides to how to live a Godfilled life on earth.
Today, we choose a saint’s name at Confirmation to ask them to intercede for us, and to have a “friend” in heaven who knows our struggles and trials. Many saints have very interesting stories, so be sure to research various ones until you find one that is meaningful to you. You may also choose your first or middle name if it is the name of a saint.
You are required to submit a report about the saint you have chosen. This can be
1. A two-page written report with picture of saint on cover sheet
2. PowerPoint Presentation (attached here as PDF)
3. Poster
4. Artwork, photography, etc.
5. Video - See allowable formats below in file upload criteria
Be creative and use your skills and talents to tell the story. Please check with your catechist if you have any questions.
