The Florida Medical Association (FMA) is accepting applications for the Karl M. Altenburger, MD Physician Leadership Academy (2026 class). This premier leadership program, offered exclusively for FMA members who practice in the state of Florida, is aimed primarily at early and mid-career physicians. Selected participants will come from a variety of specialties and practice environments but have the common objective of becoming effective leaders and advocates for the medical profession and their patients.
Physicians chosen to participate in this program are expected to attend five in-person, workshop-style classes facilitated by nationally recognized experts, with expenses for materials, lodging, included meals, and speaker fees covered by the FMA's Foundation for Healthy Floridians and the Professionals Resource Network. Participants must cover their own travel expenses (gas, mileage, airfare, etc.) to get to each in-person meeting. The 2026 Leadership Academy will also include a virtual series of interactive sessions between the live workshops. This facilitated series will support additional peer networking among class members. The primary objective is to encourage open discussions about physician wellness and provide a forum for the class to vet and leverage tools and resources to support physician autonomy, resilience, and wellness.
