Please tell us what, specifically, you would like your work to achieve in terms of outputs, outcomes and impact.
Your outputs are what you plan to do (your activity)
Your outcomes are the immediate effects of your activity (please add up to three)
Your impact is the broader and long-term effect of your activity - the difference you will make
For example, if you are planning a school engagement programme:
- an output could be leading a number of singing workshops in schools.
- your desired outcome could be that the children learn songs in two parts and perform these in a concert.
- the impact could be that the quality of the children's singing improves and they demonstrate increased enthusiasm for music.
We would like you to tell us how you will measure the success of your work. In the example above:
- you could measure the outcome by counting the number of songs the children learn and perform in two parts and assessing the quality of their performance;
- you could measure the impact by inviting teachers and/or parents to comment on the change in quality of the children's singing and by asking the children to reflect on changes in their perception/enjoyment of music.
We also need you to tell us what success will look like (your targets). This is important, as success will vary according to your starting point and the circumstances in which you are working. In the example above:
- your target outputs could be three workshops per term in five schools;
- your target outcomes could be eight songs in parts performed accurately and confidently;
- your target impact could be that 80% of children indicate that their enjoyment of singing has increased as a result of the project and that 75% of teachers recognise that the children's singing has improved.
If we support your activity, we will ask you to evaluate it against these planned outputs, outcomes and impact. Thinking about your measures of success at the outset of your project enables you to plan your monitoring and evaluation so that you are able to collect the necessary data to demonstrate the success of your project.
Your work is likely to have more than one output, and may have multiple outcomes and areas of impact. Please click the 'add output/outcome/impact' button to include another.
