    1. Corporal punishment of a child.
    2. Physical restraint of the child, such as confining the child to a high chair, car seat, stroller or other device for the purposes of discipline or in lieu of supervision, unless the physical restraint is for the purpose of preventing the child from hurting himself, herself, or someone else, and is only used as a last resort and only until the risk of injury is no longer imminent.
    3. Locking the exits of the Program center for the purpose of confining the child, or confining the child in an area or room without adult supervision, unless such confinement occurs during an emergency and is required as part of the licensee’s emergency management policies and procedures.
    4. Use of harsh or degrading measures or threats, or use of derogatory language directed at, or used in the presence of a child that would humiliate, shame or frighten the child or undermine his or her self-respect dignity or self-worth.
    5. Depriving the child of basic needs including food, drink, shelter, sleep, toilet use, clothing or bedding.
    6. Inflicting any bodily harm on children including making children eat or drink against their will.
  • PARENTS:

Parents are verbally informed of Fun Kids Club Calgary policies at the time of their intake interview. These policies are included in the Parent Handbook, which is available to parents in both hard copy form and electronic copy will be email to the parents. The policies detail the procedures and child guidance used by Fun Kids Club Calgary and how it benefits their development.

Additionally, when child guidance is implemented, the staff member who implemented it will speak personally to the child’s parents following the incident. Parents are required to sign verification of their understanding and agreement to follow those policies and procedures.

Appropriate child guidance techniques serve to guide children's behaviour not only while at the centre but also during the time children spend with their parents. Knowledge and skills are required to ensure that the child's self-esteem develops positively. Parents are supported and encouraged to try some of the guidance techniques use at the centre. Parents are partners in any strategy implemented with their child and are to be viewed as the expert when dealing with their own child. It is vital that guidance techniques be implemented consistently and that open communication occurs between parents and staff.

  • Any participation in our services as parent will constitute acceptance of this policy and implementation.
