Why are we asking these questions?
We are launching a Culturally Appropriate Advocacy service in Greater Manchester. This service will work with people of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds who have experience of being detained under the Mental Health Act. We want to hear from you.
What is an 'Expert by Experience'?
Experts are not just professionals. Your experience of accessing mental health services makes you an expert in knowing what we need to do to improve these services.
We define ‘Experts By Experience’ in this case as a person who has a lived experience with mental health struggles.
Our new service aims to:
- Provide Culturally Appropriate Advocacy to People of Colour in Greater Manchester who are detained under the Mental Health Act.
- Meet the cultural needs of people of colour by collaborating with those with Lived Experiences.
- Combat inequalities which exist within mental health services
- Contribute towards community and systemic change
- Raise awareness of the issues BAME people face when accessing Mental Health services.
- Improve Culturally Appropriate services in Greater Manchester’s mental health care.
