Audition Preparation:
1. Choose one song in a popular style of music - gospel, jazz, pop, R&B, (rather than classical/traditional).
2. The song should showcase your voice well, i.e. if you're auditioning to be in the soprano section, make sure you choose a higher key to highlight your upper notes, for alto, showcase your lower range, and for men, choose a song that showcases your ability to sing both mid and high range.
3. Many sing their audition song unaccompanied, however, you may bring sheet music for piano accompaniment. Accompaniment will be provided. Recorded accompaniments are not permitted.
4. Your song should be memorized.
Audition Format:
1. Check in at the welcome table and wait to be invited in to audition. Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes prior to your audition (and please be on time).
2. You will be asked to sing your audition song.
3. Vocal exercises to determine range, quality of voice.
4. Short interview, primarily based on the responses in your audition application.
Note: Covid-19 Safety Plan.
1. The choir's Board of Directors has voted to rescind the requirement of all choir members being vaccinated, beginning the 2023-2024 Season (September 2023 onward). As a result of this change in policy, members will no longer be required to show a vaccination record when joining the choir, however the Board of Directors and choir Health and Safety Committee strongly encourage all members to be fully vaccinated with bivalent booster(s). Please note this policy is subject to change.
2. All returning and new choir members will be required to sign a Safety Plan and Illness Waiver. The safety plan may include choir members being required to wear masks and distance during rehearsals, not attend rehearsals if having any symptoms of illness, and provide a negative Covid-19 rapid test to sing unmasked in concerts. These requirements are reviewed each term/concert series and can change throughout the year.
3. All returning and new choir members will be required to sign a waiver indicating they agree to adhere to any safety measures requested of them (masking/distancing/rapid testing) and that they release other choir members, the Board of Directors and Artistic Director from liability for illness that may occur from attending rehearsals/performing in concert.
