    2026 City of Calgary Rain Barrel Rebate Program Application

     

    The City of Calgary and Green Calgary have teamed up again to provide all Calgarians with an opportunity to receive up to $50 per barrel or the price paid, whichever is less; maximum 3 per household.

     

    How the rebate works

    Calgarians purchasing rain barrels from any vendor can submit the following application form with original receipts for up to three rain barrels per household and receive up to $50 per barrel or the price paid, whichever is less.

    The rebate is a flat $50 per eligible rain barrel, regardless of size. Accessories/add-ons are not eligible for rebate. Rain barrels must be an original sale (not resale).

    Eligible purchases are those made within 12 months of applying. Receipt timing (12-month rule) - Examples:

    • If you submit your rebate application on April 1, 2026, your receipt must be dated April 1, 2025, or newer.
    • If you submit your rebate application on July 15, 2026, your receipt must be dated July 15, 2025, or newer. 

    Funding for up to 3,500 rebates is available. 

    The program closes Oct 31, 2026 (or until available funding is fully allocated).

    Rebate applications are processed through Green Calgary. Applicant information is not shared with The City of Calgary. Any information collected will be used exclusively for this program, unless stated otherwise by applicants.

    We use third party payment processors to process payments. All information in connection with such transactions is provided directly to our third party payment processors including, but not limited to: Plooto and Shopify, and their use of your personal information is governed by their privacy policies.   • Rain Barrel Purchases

    Add one purchase line for each receipt you are claiming.

    • If you bought rain barrels on different receipts, add a separate purchase line for each receipt.
    • If you bought multiple barrels on the same receipt, you only need one purchase line for that receipt.

    What is a receipt/ order/ transaction number? A unique number shown on your receipt or order confirmation (e.g., Order #123456789, Receipt #A001234, Transaction ID 987654321, Invoice #INV‑102938). Enter exactly as shown. If you truly can’t find one on your receipt, enter N/A.

  • Proof of Purchase Instructions

    All itemized receipts or invoices: must display the vendor's name, purchase date, rain barrel as a line item (or clearly described), price, and taxes. 
    *If your vendor does not clearly describe the rain barrel as a line item, please contact Green Calgary at products@greencalgary.org before submitting your application. 

  • In-store (paper) receipts: please write “Applied for City of Calgary rain barrel rebate” on the receipt before you scan/photograph it. (This is not required for online/digital receipts.) 

  • Online orders: provide an itemized receipt/invoice and proof of delivery or pickup (for example, a delivery confirmation email and order confirmation showing the delivery/pickup address). 
    For online orders, we ask for delivery/pickup confirmation alongside order confirmation/receipt, as we need to ensure applicants have received their rain barrels before receiving their rebate. 

  • Contractor-supplied rain barrels: provide an itemized invoice that clearly identifies the rain barrel as a separate line item (not bundled only as a lump sum).

    • If a contractor has purchased a rain barrel to provide installation/services, the contractor must provide the original receipt to the homeowner, or they must clearly indicate this on their own invoice/receipt, aligning with the above proof of purchase criteria.
    • The homeowner must be the one to submit the rebate application. The application information required from the rebate recipient remains the same. 
    • Contractor-supplied barrels qualify if the contractor is a registered business

  • Fundraisers / local pop-up sale events: sometimes these events cannot provide standard proof of delivery/pickup. If this is the case, please contact products@greencalgary.org to discuss alternative proof of delivery/pickup document.

  • Green Calgary

    Online pre-order: attach the invoice you were emailed after completing your purchase.

    In-person rain barrel sales event: if you received a physical receipt, attach a photo of your receipt to this form. If you received an email receipt, attach a screenshot or .pdf of your email receipt to this form.

  • Receiving Your Rebate Payment

    Rebates are issued by Green Calgary. Applicants may accept to receive their rebate payment by mailed cheque or e-transfer. (Tip: double-check your email address — typos can delay payment.)

  • How do you wish to receive your rebate payment?*

  • E-transfer Rebate Payment

    Green Calgary may use the payment processing software Plooto to deliver your rebate payment to the email address provided in your application. Plooto does not offer auto-deposit for first-time payments. Plooto will use the email no-reply@plooto.com when notifying recipients to accept their payments. Green Calgary will use the email products@greencalgary.org to notify applicants of approval and provide details on how to accept an e-transfer from Plooto.

     

    Upon approval of your application, Plooto will require the following for you to accept your payment:

    • An answer to a security question (given to approved applicants by Green Calgary)
    • Either of the following, as chosen by the recipient
      • your online banking credentials or
      • your 5-digit transit number (bank branch), 3-digit institution number (your bank), and account number. *This information can be found on a void cheque or in your online banking account.

    If you do not want to follow the above process, please choose a mailed cheque when filling out your application. Switching to mailed cheque after your application is processed for e-transfer causes considerable delays in receiving your rebate payment. 

  • Mailed Cheque Rebate Payment

    Green Calgary will use the address provided in your application to mail your rebate cheque. Cheque’s may take up to 4 weeks to arrive at your address from the time we confirm rebate application approval. Please write your name the way it appears in your bank documents to avoid bank rejection and considerable delays.
