5. Code of conduct
Gymnastics New South Wales has developed a Code of Conduct by which all GNSW GymSport Working Group members must abide, to ensure gymnastics is administered in a professional manner, and this is recognised and acknowledged by athletes, coaches, judges, parents and the general community.
As a GNSW GymSport Working Group member, you are required to:
- Promote and respect the rights and dignity of every person regardless of gender, race, ethnicity or sexual orientation and ensure that the promotion of a safe and inclusive environment
- Protect the integrity of sport at all times by ensuring that the behaviour and conduct of every person is consistent with the rules of the sport, the principles of fair play and the standards of safe and inclusive sport
- Protect the safety and wellbeing of members at all times by ensuring that appropriate safeguarding measures and policies are in place, easily accessible and understood by every person, and reviewed regularly
- Be ethical, impartial, consistent and transparent in your conduct and decision-making. Accept responsibility for your actions
- Make decisions in the best interests of all members and the sport
Promote a safe and inclusive environment, in which every person feels welcomed and is protected and free from discrimination, harassment and abuse
- Ensure that all athletes, coaches, officials, parents and spectators place wellbeing and enjoyment ahead of performance and outcomes
- Create pathways that support athletes, coaches and officials to improve their skill development
- Provide equal opportunities for all athletes, coaches and officials to participate, regardless of their gender, ability or cultural background
- At all times act as a role model for others, displaying high standards of good sporting behavior
- Never engage in inappropriate conduct including the use of offensive language, drinking or smoking, whilst in an official capacity
- Ensure that all members are made aware of their rights and responsibilities under the appropriate legislation including: Member Protection Policy, Code of
- Conduct, Child Safe Policy and Anti-discrimination Policy, and know the process by which to refer a complaint or breach
Penalties for Breaching Code of Conduct
Penalties (disciplinary action/sanctions or removal) will be administered by Gymnastics New South Wales, in consultation with Gymnastics New South Wales’s CEO and/or Board.
Gymnastics New South Wales is required to implement a complaints handling procedure in the event of an allegation.
6. Confidentiality / Conflict of Interest
Gymnastics New South Wales recognises that as part of your involvement in a Working Group you may come across or be privy to conversations that are confidential in nature. Confidential information is any information or document that the creator does not wish to make public. This can be determined either by an express directive from Gymnastics New South Wales, the Chair of the Working Group or can be inferred by the nature of the information itself.
Confidential information can include financial information, legal information and contractual terms among others. If you come across any confidential information while in the course of your involvement in a Working Group, you agree not to disclose this information to any party, either during your association with the Working Group or once your association with the Working Group has ended, and you further agree to destroy any physical confidential information in your possession once that confidential information is no longer required.
A situation may potentially arise where you may be in an actual or perceived conflict of interest by virtue of your association or membership with another Group or organisation. A conflict of interest is a situation in which a person or organisation is involved in multiple interests, financial or otherwise, in situations where serving one the interests could involve working against one of the other interests. A conflict of interest is not necessarily fatal but you must disclose any actual or perceived conflicts of interest that may either actually influence your decision-making ability or could be perceived to influence your decision-making ability.
The disclosure should be made to the GNSW Participation Manager as soon as you become aware of the potential conflict.
It should be noted that not all those listed above are required to attend all meetings; however, will be sent notes of meetings and agendas, prior to each meeting.
7. Operations
The Working Group will be operational from March 2026 - March 2027. The working group will meet at least once per 6 weeks. These meetings are held online, maybe 1 as a face-to-face meeting
This will be reviewed periodically to ensure that its operations are appropriate to the needs of the program and the strategic objectives set by GNSW
