• Protocol for bites & scratches

  • Most human bites are not serious, but medical attention may be required if the bite is severe or shows signs of infection. In the event that a staff member is bitten or scratched by a client and the skin is broken, the following protocol must be followed:

    Incident Protocol

    1. Inform your line manager immediately that you have been injured
    2. Take the necessary actions to thoroughly clean any wounds
    3. Record all relevant details with your line manager for completion of an incident report form. Include time, date, location, type of injury and any potential triggers of the client
    4. Keep your line manager updated of any changes in relation to your injury from the incident.

Information from the NHS website on treating wounds are documented in the centre. Speak with your line manager for further information.

     Vaccination Advisory

As part of your role, it is strongly advised that you maintain an up-to-date tetanus vaccination (within the last 10 years) and a hepatitis B vaccination.

     Staff Acknowledgment

I acknowledge that I have read and understood the protocol outlined above and understand the vaccination recommendations associated with my role.
