  • Statement on Travel and Visa Restrictions

The Haitian Studies Association acknowledges the ongoing and increasing difficulties many scholars and students face in securing visas, institutional funding, and safe travel to and within the United States—particularly if they are from Haiti but also those from the Global South, non-U.S. citizens, Black and Brown academics, and gender non-conforming individuals.

As we plan our 2025 Annual Conference in Pittsburgh, we are working to ensure participation is possible for those facing these barriers. We are exploring the possibility of offering limited remote presentation options as well as other forms of support as needed for those impacted by evolving travel restrictions.

We would like to know if you expect to have any travel difficulties in attending our 37th annual conference.

  • Informal translator/interpreter

As a new initiative, we would like to pair conference attendees with a volunteer informal translator/interpreter. The informal translator/interpreter will help their partner navigate the conference and get more out of multilingual sessions.

If you are interested in becoming one or would like to be paired with one, please note your interest here. We will contact you later for more information.

  • Dietary Restrictions

Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions (vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, etc.) or allergies (gluten, peanut, soy, etc.).

We will use this information to plan catering that best accommodates the needs of our attendees.
