  • Generally, county departments of children and family services will require caregivers to attend therapy with the child at specific agencies that are contracted with the county. In these cases, the county pays for treatment. You can ask your social worker for a referral to one of their contracted agencies.

However if the county will not pay for services or none of their contracted agencies have availability, Hamilton Family Counseling holds several slots open for PCIT for children in foster care at a rate of $10 per session.

Caregivers will need to coordinate with the child’s social worker who must agree to our requirements. You can download the requirements on the next slide and provide to the child's county social worker to get approval.

  • Additionally, both parents/guardians must agree to the following policies. You may cut/paste or screenshot these policies to share with the other parent/guardian. There is also a PDF version you can download on the slide after next for your convenience.

     Coordinating Treatment

    • Each parent/guardian is required to have a 15-minute phone consultation call with the therapist to review this policy before the intake is scheduled.

    • Both parents/guardians must sign their own set of consent forms for treatment (unless there is a court order).

    • Each parent/guardian has the right to request a treatment summary and to terminate therapy services at any time (unless there is a court order).

    • Only one parent/guardian needs to attend session every week.

    • Both parents/guardians can attend sessions online from different locations if desired if they are amicable with each other.

    • Parents/guardians can elect to have separate sessions on alternating weeks if both can agree in advance about how treatment will be paid for including missed sessions.

    Parenting Disagreements

    • Both parents/guardians must agree to respect the parenting decisions of the other parent/guardian while the child is in the care of the other parent/guardian.

    • We do not provide custody evaluations or custody recommendations and are not able to provide services where one parent/guardian suspects abusive or neglectful parenting by another parent/guardian or adult in the other household.

    • Reports of inappropriate parenting or abuse by one parent/guardian about another parent/guardian in divorce or custody disputes are generally considered unreliable and not reportable.

    • Disingenuous attempts to use therapy as a means of obtaining an advantage in divorce or custody disputes or to interfere with the parenting of another parent/guardian is not only unproductive, but also potentially harmful to the child, and services will be terminated with referrals to other therapists provided.

    • Should the concern for abuse or neglect arise, parents/guardians are advised to report their concerns to the county's department of child protective services to avoid being accused or charged with a failure to protect their child for reporting to a therapist instead of the proper authorities.  After such a report is made to the proper authorities, the therapist can be informed and at their discretion the therapist may continue treatment or terminate services with 3 referrals provided.
