STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math
HMCo. was a leader in the development and use of steam propulsion.
Our version of "STEAM" stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math, and it uses the design, construction and sailing of boats to demonstrate the principles of math, physics and creative problem solving.
Through the Herreshoff STEAM Program, we provide adventurous students with hands-on, interactive educational experiences unlike any other. Our curriculum is built around three key subject areas; sailing, science and seamanship, and it's designed to engender curiosity, creativity, confidence and self-reliance. In 2017, almost 600 kids experienced some component of the program, and we're looking to build on that success in 2018!
At the Frostbite Bash, we'll be holding a special fund-a-need auction* to raise money for the STEAM Program, and every dollar we raise up to $50,000 will be matched by one of our very generous supporters. This winter, the kids in the boat shop will be building a rare and unique 10' Herreshoff skiff based on a plan from 1899, and we need your help to "build the skiff".
This is a great opportunity to help inspire the next generation of innovators. Even if you can't be at the Bash, you can donate online here. Any amount helps - and instantly doubles - so please consider a donation to this important cause.
