  • THE EXAM IS BASED ON 2017 OR 2020 NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE. UGLY'S ELECTRICAL REFERENCES GUIDE IS ALLOWED.

    Per Article 14 Section 4, of the Local 26 Bylaws:

    (a) A Residential Wireman shall be required to satisfactorily complete an additional three year training course as provided by the NJATC before being eligible to request a change of classification to JOURNEYMAN WIREMAN.


    (b) A Residential Wireman who has three (3) or more years of good standing in the brotherhood may request to take the three year training course in order to be eligible to become a Journeyman Wireman. The Examining Board may recognize prior experience and administer a test for placement in the Upgrade Program. Upon satisfactory completion of this course and the payment of the difference in admission fee prevailing at the time he or she became a Residential Wireman, the member shall have his or her classification changed to Journeyman Wireman.

  • If approved for the Change of Classification Test, your score will determine if you will be:

    • reclassified as an 'A" Journeyman Wireman (AJ) (90% or higher)
    • eligible to enroll into the 3rd year of the R to A Upgrade School (80%-89%)
    • eligible to enroll into the 2nd year of the R to A Upgrade School (70%-79%)
    • eligible to enroll into the 1st year of the R to A Upgrade School (60%-69%)
    • RE classificaitons scoring 60% or better will be reclassified as RW and eligible to enroll in the R to A Upgrade School
    • did not score high enough and may reapply again in 6 months
  • Once you have tested and are eligible to enroll in the R to A Upgrade School, you will not be allowed to test again, until you would have been expected to finish the R to A Upgrade School.

    DUE TO THE INCREASED NUMBER OF MEMBERS SHOWING INTEREST AND BEING TESTED FOR THE PROGRAM, TEST TAKERS ARE CURRENTLY TESTING FOR UPGRADE STARTING IN THE FALL OF 2026.
