JLA Endowment Community Award (Joy • Love • Laughter)
This award is given in memory of Josie Lee Alexander: a grandmother, mother, sister, and wife who always looked for the best in every situation. When times were hard, she leaned on her faith, saying: “Don’t worry about people, let God deal with them.”

Josie was the life of every gathering, laughing, dancing, and loving on her family. She encouraged her grandchildren to “do like you’re supposed to,” and was always willing to help anyone in need. Through every season, she showed true perseverance, facing challenges with strength, joy, and unwavering love.

Her laugh was just as big as her heart. The JLA Endowment Community Award celebrates ICY alumni who carry forward her legacy of joy, love, laughter, and perseverance in their own journeys.

Eligibility for the JLA Endowment Community Award:  Application due Oct 16th, 2025

• Open to ICY alumni from any cohort.
  • Alumni may be:
    • Currently enrolled in high school, college, or trade school, OR
    • Pursuing meaningful ventures outside of school (work, entrepreneurship, service, or creative projects).
    • Must demonstrate a commitment to ICY’s values: empower, expose, educate.
  • Requirements
    • Completed application form
    • A choice between the following three submissions options:
      • Essay (150 words max)
      • Photo (tagging @ICYABROAD)
      • OR Short Video (tagging @ICYABROAD) posted on social media.

Award
Two recipients will be selected.
Each recipient will receive $250, paid directly to them.
Awardees will also be recognized publicly on ICY’s platforms.

JLA Endowment Community Award — Official Rules & Policies
1. Privacy Policy
By submitting an application, you acknowledge that the Sponsor (InterCultural Youth / JLA Endowment) and its related entities may contact you with information related to this award or opportunities that may be of interest. All personal information will be managed in alignment with ICY’s privacy practices.

2. Publicity
Except where prohibited, by accepting a scholarship award, recipients agree that the Sponsor may use their name, voice, likeness, or submitted content in any and all media, worldwide, for the purpose of celebrating recipients, advertising, and promoting ICY, the JLA Endowment, or the Scholarship Program, without additional compensation or notice.

3. Ownership of Submissions
By submitting an application, you acknowledge and agree that:

Sponsor will have the right to use your application responses, essay, photo, and/or video submission in connection with the award.
Applicants grant the Sponsor a perpetual, royalty-free license to publish, share, and promote their submissions (including derivative works) in any format or media, now or in the future.
Sponsor may edit, adapt, or use the material for promotional, educational, or storytelling purposes related to ICY and the JLA Endowment.
4. Dispute Resolution
Except where prohibited, all issues concerning the interpretation and enforcement of these rules will be governed by the laws of the state of Alabama. Any disputes must be resolved individually (not as part of a class action) in the state or federal courts of Alabama, and applicants consent to those courts’ jurisdiction.

5. No Obligation to Use
Sponsor has no obligation to use any application or submission. Submissions may or may not be featured publicly, and Sponsor may discontinue use at any time.

6. Right to Modify, Suspend, or Terminate
If circumstances beyond Sponsor’s reasonable control prevent the continuation of the Scholarship Program, the Sponsor reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the program.

7. General Release and Limitation of Liability
By entering the Scholarship Program, applicants agree that Sponsor, its partners, affiliates, staff, and volunteers are not responsible for:

Lost, late, incomplete, or misdirected applications.
Technical errors or failures of any kind.
Any injury, loss, or damage arising directly or indirectly from participation in the program or use of any award.
This program is subject to all U.S. federal, state, and local laws. Void where prohibited.

8. General Provisions
Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any applicant found tampering with the application process, misrepresenting information, or acting in a disruptive or unsportsmanlike manner. Sponsor’s failure to enforce any provision of these rules does not constitute a waiver of that provision.

9. List of Scholarship Recipients
Names of scholarship recipients will be announced publicly through ICY’s official channels.

Please submit a 100 -150 word essay to the proposed question. The submission should be in the format of pds, doc, txt or png if unable to fit in the box above.
