Tuition-Based Scholarship 

The 2026-27 Jerry Grier Tuition Scholarship is distributed to the academic institution to cover the costs of tuition and fees. Amount is based upon your school’s cost of tuition and fees, your financial aid, other awards/scholarships/grants, and is designed to reduce your out of-pocket-costs for tuition and fees.

Performance-Based Scholarship
The 2026-27 Jerry Grier Performance-Based Scholarship provides a reward to students for maintaining good academic progress.  Good academic progress is defined as earning grades of “C” or better in all classes that are taken during a semester. This scholarship provides financial support for cost-of-living expenses and is paid directly to the student.

Minimum Criteria:

☐ Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale

☐ Must be a tenant of a qualified partner housing unit

☐ Must demonstrate financial need

Personal Statement (250-500 words, double-spaced, 12-point font)

Describe your career goals.  Indicate how the degree you are seeking during the 2026-27 academic year will help you reach your goals.  Briefly share your plans after you finish your degree program.

 

One letter of recommendation is REQUIRED to complete your application. Please enter your recommenders' information below and an email will automatically be sent to them requesting submission of a recommendation letter on your behalf. Make sure to follow up with your recommenders to ensure that your application is complete by the deadline.

Recommendation letters should explicitly state the students name, be typed, double-spaced, in 12-point font, and no more than one page long.  Recommendation letters must be submitted by a non-family member adult who knows you well.  Examples of suitable recommenders include (but are not limited to) a school administrator, teacher, high school principal, school counselor, advisor, athletic coach, employer, supervisor, member of the clergy, or mentor.

Recommendation letters should describe how long and in what capacity the recommender has known you and why the recommender feels you are deserving of the scholarship. What are the qualities or characteristics that you possess that will make you successful in college? This letter should also include any information the recommender feel will assist the Selection Committee in making its decision.

Each applicant must be a verified tenant of an Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing (OCIC) property.  Please enter the name and contact information of your property manager/resident services staff member below and an email will automatically be sent requesting submission of the required Housing Certification Form.  Please make sure to follow up with your property manager to ensure that your application is complete by the deadline.

I fully understand that providing false information and/or failing to provide all required materials may result in my disqualification of consideration for the receipt of any OCIC/ I Know I Can financial assistance and/or continued retention services provided by I Know I Can.

Further, I hereby grant full authorization to OCIC/I Know I Can, and its representatives, to use any and all information contained in all related financial aid documents and/or academic records provided for any and all relevant purposes, including, but not limited to 1.) financial assistance eligibility and/or selection purposes; 2.) overall monitoring of the student’s academic progress to ensure continued assistance, support, and maintained success of the student’s educational pursuit; and 3.) any and all research, evaluation, and/or solicitation of support conducted by OCIC/I Know I Can. OCIC/ I Know I Can, its representatives, community partners, and appropriate college personnel employed at the student’s college in the areas pertaining to admission, registration, financial aid, billing, academic progress, retention, and any and all other related programs and/or areas may share any and all relevant information for any of and all of the aforementioned purposes. I understand that in the selection of financial assistance recipients, OCIC/ I Know I Can does not discriminate on basis of gender, ethnic heritage, national origin, personal appearance, personal beliefs, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

I certify that I am a current, eligible resident in good standing of an affordable property of an OCCH member company and I certify that the information I am providing is true and accurate under penalty or perjury. I grant the property permission to release housing eligibility information to OCCH for the purpose of completing this scholarship application. I further release the property from any liability associated with the release of this information.

By signing this application, the undersigned hereby acknowledges receipt and understanding of the guidelines set forth herein and agrees to abide by the same. Further, the undersigned agrees to waive all personal claims, causes of action, and/or damages against OCIC/ I Know I Can and any and all of its representatives, including, but not limited to, its board of trustees, officers, employees, and associates, arising from or growing out of their participation in OCIC/ I Know I Can.
