Overview
The Loving You Into Freedom Grant Competition is a pitch-based funding opportunity designed to support justice-impacted individuals and their families in launching or expanding purpose-driven businesses. This initiative centers around our belief that those closest to the problem are also closest to the solution—and deserve capital, mentorship, and visibility to bring their visions to life.
Who Should Apply?
We invite applications from:
Returning Citizens: Individuals who have experienced incarceration and are ready to build or scale a business.
Family Members: Spouses, parents, children, or close relatives of currently or formerly incarcerated individuals who are launching a mission-aligned venture.
Collaborative Teams: Founders working together where at least one member is a returning citizen or a directly-impacted family member.
*Must Live in the New York, New Jersey or Connecticut Tri State area*Â
Eligible Business Types
We support ventures that are:
Early-stage or growth-stage businesses (for-profit or hybrid)
Led by justice-impacted individuals or their families
Focused on innovation, impact, and sustainability in any sector, including but not limited to:
Social enterprise
Health and wellness
Creative arts/media
Food service
Technology
Transportation/logistics
Education and community programming
Prize Structure
Total prize pool: $25,000 - $50,000 (based on sponsorship levels)
Finalists will also receive:
Business coaching and mentorship
Marketing exposure at the Impact Awards
Access to future donor and investor networks

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- A completed online application form
- A 2-minute video pitch
- Business plan or executive summary
- Budget breakdown (including how funds will be used)
- Proof of eligibility (i.e., formerly incarcerated or family connection)
- Optional: Letters of recommendation or community endorsements
Evaluation Criteria
Clarity of Vision – Is the business clearly defined with a compelling mission?
Innovation & Differentiation – Is the idea original or positioned uniquely?
Feasibility – Is the business viable and scalable?
Social Impact – Does it support the community or create job opportunities?
Leadership – Does the founder/team demonstrate passion, grit, and integrity

The panel of 5 will be representative of:
Entrepreneurs with lived experience
Justice reform advocates
Investors and business leaders
Partners and sponsors
