The primary purpose of the Jayda Dionne Parker Scholarship Fund is to provide a deserving student of FAMU’s School of Journalism and Graphic Communication with financial assistance for college expenses who exemplify Jayda’s attributes: hard work, benevolence, and determination against all odds. This is a $2,000 scholarship of which $1000 will be awarded for the Fall semester of 2026. The remaining $1000 will be awarded in December 2026 for the Spring semester of 2027.

Your essay must include: • a statement of a major life, mental, or physical hurdle significant to the applicant that was overcome, • a summary of how the applicant was changed by the experience, and • an assertion of how overcoming adversity influenced the applicant’s plans for the future When preparing the essay, applicants are encouraged to visit www.jdpscholar.org/about-Jayda to learn about Jayda’s attributes and how their attributes exemplify Jayda’s character.

Award Terms* This field is required.I understand the Jayda Dionne Parker Scholarship award must be used for tuition, fees required for enrollment, or course-related expenses, such as fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses, and that if I am selected as a recipient, payment of this scholarship will be made directly to my college or university student account. Please note that if selected, recipients will be required to submit a photograph to publicize this scholarship's availability. Relatives of Jayda Dionne Parker Scholarship Fund, Inc. board members and relatives of Jayda Dionne Parker Scholarship Fund, Inc. committee members are ineligible to apply. International students, other than students in U.S. territories are also ineligible. Applications that DO NOT include an OFFICIAL academic transcript or (2) letters of recommendation by May 31, 2026, will not be considered. High school seniors who do not have documentation of enrollment by May 31, 2026, if selected as a finalist, must provide documentation of enrollment before scholarship funds are awarded. Applicants are encouraged to apply well before the May 31, 2026 deadline.
