• Shingles Vaccination Eligibility

  • Is the person to be vaccinated aboriginal or torres strait islander?
  • Is the person to be vaccinated immunocompromised or taking medications that lower the immune system?
  • Has the person to be vaccinated had a shingles vaccination before?
  • Did you pay full cost for the Zostavax or was it more than 5 years ago?
  • Has the person to be vaccinated had a shingles infection in the last 12 months?
  • Unsure of the vaccination status?

    Please double check status through Australian Immunisation Register, or talk to a pharmacist immuniser to find your status.

    If you recieved a Zostavax vaccination in the past, please talk to a pharmacist immuniser before making an appointment. 

    If you have had 2 Shingrix they are up to date. No need for any further doses.

  • Has had shingles in the last 12 months.

    People who have had shingles/herpes zoster previously are still at risk of future episodes. Immunocompetent people should delay Shingrix® for at least 12 months after an episode of herpes zoster. Immunocompromised people are at higher risk of recurrence. They can receive Shingrix® from 3 months after the acute illness, following an individualised risk-benefit discussion on the ideal interval for vaccination..

    Please double check status through Australian Immunisation Register or get a pharmacist immuniser to check.

    If you recieved a  Zostavax vaccination for free 5 years must have past to get a Shingrix vaccination for free.

    If you have had 2 Shingrix vaccinations you are up to date.
