As you may have heard, the Governor has proposed to eliminate two key programs providing housing support to current and former foster youth in the 2024-25 state budget. This proposed elimination is in response to a budget deficit our state is facing. We want to send a message to the Governor's Office that these programs are too important to cut:
- The $13.7 million Housing Navigation & Maintenance Program (HNMP), which helps former foster youth with housing vouchers to pay for their security deposit and other move-in costs, and to find, secure, and maintain housing.
- The $18.8 million Supervised Independent Living Placement (SILP) Housing Supplement which, starting in 2025 will provide additional money each month directly to foster youth placed in SILPs so they have more money to pay for housing. The amount of money will be based on local rent costs.
