What's a Topographic or boundary Survey?
Renovations that involve expanding the size of your home or adding outbuildings and elevated decks may require a survey plan of your property as part of your building permit application. A survey plan will reveal the true size, shape, and total area of your property, enabling your architect or building designer to calculate the “building envelope” and proposed lot coverage to ensure the proposed addition or structural change is in compliance with municipal zoning by-law specifications. A Topographic Plan will be of further use if you need to synchronize with the existing terrain or preserve tree locations.
