    Pricing: Each Parade home is eligible to enter both contests.*

    *If an address has previously won a runner up or grand prize award, that entry is not eligible to win again in that contest. Please contact Paige@kchba.org or call 816.937.4395 with any questions regarding contest eligibility.

    *Homes entered into Distinctive Plan & Design need to be furnished.

  • THE CONTESTS

    Pick of the Parade – The Pick of the Parade contest is focused on the home’s quality of materials used, workmanship and overall construction of the home. Homes do NOT need to be furnished and furnishings/decoration should not be taken into consideration when judging the home. Both exterior and interior flatwork, foundation, framing and finishing will be evaluated. Landscaping is evaluated on neatness, drainage, quality of materials and hardscape installation. Interior drywall, painting, staining, flooring and countertops will be ranked for installation, workmanship and price-point appropriate materials. Home functionality and overall cleanliness is also evaluated. 

    Distinctive Plan & Design – The Distinctive Design & Plan contest is focused on the home’s architecture, floor plan and interior design. All main living areas and spaces (including primary bedroom) must be furnished to qualify. No points should be taken off if other areas are not furnished. Exterior elements will be evaluated, including curb appeal, landscaping, lot placement and general outdoor spaces. The general layout of the home will be considered, with judges rating overall functionality, efficiency and design elements within the kitchen (and adjacent areas), bathrooms and bedrooms. Price-point appropriate storage, furnishings, materials, hardware and lighting are evaluated. Craftsmanship, trim carpentry and color composition are also appraised.

          • CONTEST DEADLINES - SPRING 2026

            • March 11: Parade Awards Ceremony tickets on sale
              (ceremony April 29; early bird pricing until April 8) - members.kchba.org/calendar
            • March 27: Contest EARLY deadline

            • April 3: Contest LATE deadline

            • April 8: EARLY BIRD ticket pricing ends for Parade Awards Ceremony
            • April 8: Builder deadline to update contest home price (no exceptions!)
            • April 20: The contest judging schedule will be sent out on or before this date
            • April 21: Builder Parade material pick-up at the KCHBA (8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.)
            • April 22: Builder Parade material pick-up at the KCHBA (8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.)
            • April 23: Ticket sales end for Parade awards ceremony (if not already sold out)
            • April 23-24: Parade contest judging
            • April 25: 2025 Spring Parade of Homes begins
            • April 26: Final day to email Paige@kchba.org or upload to portal front elevation photos of contest home(s) for Awards Ceremony
            • April 29: Parade Awards Ceremony
            • May 10: 2025 Spring Parade of Homes ends

          • JUDGING AND DRIVING

            Schedule: Judging takes place on Thursday and Friday before the start of the Parade. Please be mindful - if you enter the same home in both contests it is up to chance whether it will be judged on the same day. Builders will be informed of each entry’s judging day(s) no later than the Monday before the judging.

            Price Categories: Each home is assigned a price category by the Parade Committee after all contest entries have been submitted. The contest categories are not pre-set. They are determined by the number of entries submitted in those price ranges. Industry professionals from across the country are recruited to judge your home(s) for these competitions.

            Drivers: If your company wins an award this season, you are required to provide a driver for the following Parade contest cycle. Your driver can be a representative from your company or someone you do business with (banker, subcontractor, etc.).

            All companies have the opportunity to volunteer a representative driver. Drivers host a team of judges (drivers are not assigned any routes containing their own homes), by navigating through the Kansas City area suburbs. The contests would not be possible without these volunteers! Drivers are given a gas and lunch stipend. For more information on this opportunity, please contact Paige@kchba.org or call 816.937.4395

          • BUILDER AGREEMENT

            • By submitting this form, I hereby certify that I have read, understand and will abide by all the rules of this contest and that all of the information on this form is correct.
            • I understand marketing and material budgets are determined by the number of contest entries received and no contest refunds can be offered even if my home is not able to be judged.
            • I agree this home has never been occupied and will not be occupied at the time of judging.
            • I understand that not abiding by the rules set forth in this contest may constitute a penalty in future tours and return of any awards should the information be found inaccurate.
            • I agree to have my home 100% complete by April 23. If my home will not be completed on time I will call 816.937.4395 or email Paige@kchba.org before April 16 to withdraw from the contest. Failing to notify the KCHBA of a withdrawal will result in a $200 fine.
            • I agree to have my home open for judging on Thursday, April 23 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Friday, April 24 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
            • I understand if I win an award this season, I am required to provide a driver as a representative of my company to drive the judges one day for the following Parade contest cycle.
          • MINIMUM STANDARD RULE

            To qualify for the Grand Prize or First Runner Up awards, a home must score 65% or above of the total points possible for the Grand Prize award or 70% or above of the total points possible for the First Runner Up award. After qualifying, the homes will be ranked based on their scores.  

          • CONTEST ELIGILBILTIY

            Previous contest submissions are eligible if the home did not place in the contest. If an address has placed first or second in Distinctive Plan & Design, but did not place in Pick of the Parade, it is eligible for entry into Pick of the Parade but not Distinctive Plan & Design (and vice versa).           • THE CONTESTS

          • HOME INFORMATION

            The entry address entered for judging must be the entry address and unit entered on the Parade of Homes.

          • HOME CATEGORY

            All homes with lawncare provided by a homeowners association are considered maintenance provided.

          • HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR PRICE FOR JUDGING

            How to determine your sales price: The exact sales price of your entry should reflect the selling price including all options of your home the first day of judging. For model homes, the exact sales price should reflect the exact reproduction price of the home. 

            Pricing deadline: Any pricing revisions from this original form submitted are due April 8. Email to Paige@kchba.org.

            NOTE: The exact sales price for the contest is separate from the sales price for the Parade of Homes guide. Any pricing revisions made to Parade entries within the builder portal will NOT automatically change contest pricing and vice versa.

          • FRONT ELEVATION PHOTO FOR CONTEST ENTRIES

            Upload all preferred front elevation photos to the Parade builder portal (admin.paradeofhomes.io/login) OR email to Paige@kchba.org by end of day on April 26. Portal photos will be downloaded for the presentation the morning of April 27.

            For winning homes, this photo will be used at the Awards Ceremony and featured on kchba.org/parade-of-homes-winners. 

          • SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS

            We want to share your award winning homes! If entering more than one contest home, you only need to submit company social media account information once.

          • JUDGING DAYS AND CONTEST COMMUNICATION

            Judges are instructed to call this number to give the builder an estimated arrival time and with any questions if they have trouble locating the home. If judges are not able to get in touch with a builder rep within ten minutes they will move on and the home will not be judged. A secondary contact is not required but recommended for this reason.

          • Below include ALL emails that need contest updates on your team (deadline reminders, judging schedule, awards ceremony, etc.). A copy of this completed entry form will be sent to the first email provided. A different email list is used for the contests (as opposed to the Parade as a whole) and it changes each Parade.

            If you are submitting multiple contest forms, you only need to provide additional emails on one submission to get them on the current contest contact list.
