  • Gallery Selection

The MHC Gallery has two gallery spaces. A smaller gallery called the 'Community Gallery' is for amateur or emerging artists and the 'Principal Gallery' is for established artists, group exhibitions or special gallery initiatives. Please indicate which gallery you are applying for. Applicants may select one or both options.
  • Community Gallery

Community Gallery The Community Gallery is primarily intended for amateur, student, and emerging artists who are developing their artistic practice and gaining experience exhibiting their work. It provides an accessible opportunity for local artists and community members to share their work with the public. Community Gallery exhibitions may include individual or small group exhibitions, community projects, and themed shows. No artist fees are paid for exhibitions in the Community Gallery. Artists are responsible for costs and arrangements related to installation, tear-down, and the opening reception. Gallery support may be provided where available and appropriate.
  • Principal Gallery

The Principal Gallery is intended primarily for established and professional artists, as well as curated exhibitions, collaborative projects, group exhibitions, and exhibitions of significant artistic or community interest. Principal Gallery exhibitions are selected based on the quality and strength of the proposed work, artistic practice, exhibition concept, and suitability for the gallery and its audience. Selected artists may be eligible for CARFAC fees, where applicable and subject to available funding and gallery policy. The gallery may provide assistance with installation and tear-down and will offer an opening reception for Principal Gallery exhibitions. Artists selected for the Principal Gallery are also expected to participate in a workshop, artist talk, demonstration, or other public engagement activity connected to their exhibition.
  • Gallery Placement

Applicants may indicate their preferred gallery when submitting an application. However, final gallery placement is determined by the gallery based on the artist's experience, the strength and nature of the proposed work, exhibition concept, space requirements, and overall suitability for the gallery. The gallery may recommend or offer an applicant a different gallery than the one originally requested if it is considered a better fit for the artist, exhibition, or gallery program. Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance into either gallery. Both galleries aim to support artists, encourage community participation, provide opportunities for the public to experience diverse artistic practices, and contribute to a vibrant local arts community!
