We are glad you are interested in becoming one of 4.5 million Americans who are certified in Mental Health First Aid, (MHFA), an evidence-based, global course that will teach you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders in real, actionable ways.
For more information about the class, watch this short video, go to the MHFA Collaborative's website, or the National Council for Mental Wellbeing's MHFA website.
According to peer reviewed research, the outcomes of getting certified in MHFA are that you will:
- Grow in your knowledge of signs, symptoms and risk factors of mental illnesses and addictions.
- Identify multiple types of professional and self-help resources for individuals with a mental illness or addiction.
- Increase your confidence in and likelihood to help an individual in distress.
- Show increased mental wellness in yourself by just taking the training.
- Help to reduce negative attitudes and perceptions of individuals with mental illnesses.
We have trained almost 40,000 people and hear the stories about why MHFA is important so we are excited to help you take the next step in getting certified!
The bad news is that after five years of statewide funding from the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health and despite having 80 organizations on our waiting list, our funding was cut so we are no longer able to offer MHFA at no cost for every county in Ohio.
The good news is that the MHFA Collaborative is slowly adding new grants, county by county, to offer MHFA at no cost.
So as of now, you have three options:
1. If you qualify, you can take the class at no cost. (See list of counties in Ohio and Kentucky below.)
2. If you don't qualify, you can wait to see if we get funding for your county. If you leave your information below, we will email you directly if we get a grant that covers your cost.
3. If you would rather not wait, you can pay for your MHFA class at a cost of $80 per learner. If you leave your information below, our MHFA Coordinator will reach out to you directly.
Thank you again for your interest in taking this vital training,
The MHFA Collaborative managed by Mental Health America of Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio
