Comprehensive Economic Impact Survey: Loss of Lahaina Harbor Boating Activity Logo
  • Comprehensive Economic Impact Survey: Loss of Lahaina Harbor Boating Activity

  • Aloha! On behalf of the Maui Chamber of Commerce, we extend our deepest solidarity with you and our entire commercial boating community. We are voluntarily undertaking a crucial economic impact survey to gather the critical information needed to secure government funding for the rebuilding of Lahaina Harbor. In a time of intense competition for government resources, a unified movement to secure funding and expedite the reopening of the harbor—with continuous, long-term improvements—is needed and contingent on hard data. We need your help to make the case.

Our Target Audience: Former Lahaina Harbor Commercial Boating Activity Businesses (e.g., Dive Charters, Parasailing, Sailing Charters, Snorkel Tours, Sport Fishing, Sunset Cruises, Whale Watching), your Employees and your key Vendors/Suppliers.

The Objective: Quantify the direct, indirect, and induced economic, tax revenue and job losses from the destruction of Lahaina Harbor's commercial boating infrastructure and activity.

Your participation in this survey is vital. The information you provide will be instrumental in educating elected officials and decision-makers on the significant economic, tax revenue, and job losses that your business, and our community, have experienced. This is a collective opportunity to showcase not only the revenue you've lost, but also the ripple effect of lost tax revenue for both the state and county. The data will underscore why it is essential to not only restore Lahaina Harbor but also to invest in a long-term harbor improvement plan for the economic benefit of the boating industry, Lahaina town, other businesses, and our community for years to come. As Lahaina Harbor reopens, we will also experience an expansion of economic opportunities and broader revitalization of the town.

To assist you in providing the most thorough and accurate responses, we encourage you to have your Profit & Loss statements and tax filings for Fiscal Year End 2022, as well as information from your reservation system, ready for reference.

The survey will take you approximately 15-30 minutes to complete depending on your access to needed information.

We want to thank Jim Walsh of Atlantis Submarines and Toni Marie Davis of Activities & Attractions Association of Hawaii, Inc. for assisting us with information gathering and avenues to get the survey out.

Mahalo nui loa for taking the time to complete this survey and being a part of the solution. Your efforts will help us best educate the government and the public, secure needed funding, and get boating operations back on the water from Lahaina Harbor as quickly as possible.

    Sincerely,
    Pamela Tumpap
    President
