THE MAHONING COUNTY DAIRY SCHOLARSHIP
The Mahoning County Dairy Scholarship was established by a Mahoning County Youth Agricultural Association donation in memory of Barb Rhodes and donations from the Mahoning County Dairy Committee. The purpose of this scholarship is twofold. First and for most, to recognize youth who have participated in the Dairy Program. Secondly, to provide an avenue for individuals to donate to this scholarship in honor or in memory of individuals that touched the lives of Dairy youth, or individuals who simply wish to support the Dairy Scholarship.
The recipient of this scholarship may not be the best academic scholar, but a youth that has given 100% effort to be the best. Applicants must complete the following to qualify.
1. Applicant must currently be or have been an active participant in the Mahoning County Dairy Club.
2. Applicant should demonstrate sincere dedication to the Dairy Program. Applicant should also demonstrate sincere interest in helping the Dairy Committee at the county meetings and clinics and the Junior Fair.
3. Applicant must be a Senior in High School or college student currently enrolled in a college or technical school pursuing a college degree with a GPA of at least 2.5.
4. Applicant must have a sincere commitment to pursuing furthering their education by attending college, technical school, or school of trade.
5. A photo of the applicant should be uploaded to this application.
6. Scholarship payment will be used solely for tuition fees and/or books or school supplies.
7. The scholarship recipients will be chosen by a by the Scholarship Committee which will consist of a representative of the Dairy Committee (a member without members involved in the program) if available, the MCYAA Financial Committee, or Junior Fair Advisory Committee, the OSU Extension 4-H Program.
8. Scholarship monies will be dispersed after the recipient sends a copy of college/technical school tuition/receipts/transcript to the Dairy Committee to verify proof of attendance to the school of higher education.
9. Scholarship checks must be cashed by December 30, or the monies will be forfeited back to the scholarship fund. Any exceptions must be approved by the scholarship committee.
10. Applications for this scholarship must be submitted online as instructed, or eligibility for this scholarship may be forfeited. To maintain the integrity of this scholarship, the scholarship committee has the final determination as to the requirements for proof of attendance to college and the dispersal of the scholarship monies. If any question or discrepancy should arise, the scholarship committee has final determination if the funds should be released.
The following shall be the criteria for awarding scholarships:
Dairy Club Involvement ..................... 40%
Participation in other Junior Fair Youth Organizations .................... 20%
Financial Need ................................. 15%
Grade Point Average ......................... 10%
Experience in School Activities .............. 15%
PLEASE PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING BY THE JULY COUNTY DAIRY MEETING:
1. Completed application. Applications are available under Youth Awards. Application must be completed online by the deadline.
2. Certified copy of high school/college transcripts verifying a minimum 2.5 GPA uploaded into the scholarship form.
3. Three letters of recommendations: 1 from a club advisor, 1 from an academic advisor and one from another person such as a coach, teacher, youth advisor, employer, etc. References cannot come from family members.
