REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MARTHA THULLEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARHSHIP
The Martha Thullen Memorial Scholarship was established by the friends and family of Martha Thullen. Martha touched the lives of many 4-H youth through her love for helping with the goat projects in Mahoning County.
Martha Thullen left quietly, and a great loss was felt by those who were privileged to meet such a dedicated individual. Martha Thullen was a very reserved individual who never wished to be acknowledged for her good deeds, nor the need to be in the spotlight. Martha Thullen did not want much recognition for the work she did in touching so many lives, but we would like to believe that by establishing this scholarship; we would allow this quiet touch to still exist with every youth that receives this scholarship.
The recipient of this scholarship may not be the best academic scholar, but a youth that has given 100% effort to be the best. Applicants must complete the following to qualify.
1. Applicant must currently be or have been an active participant in the Mahoning County Goat Club.
2. Applicant must participate in the fund raising efforts to support the scholarship. Applicant may donate a scholarship animal or fudge to be auctioned at the Market Livestock Sale, or participate in the designated fund raiser by the goat committee.
3. Applicant should also demonstrate sincere interest in helping the goat committee at the county meetings and clinics.
4. Applicant must be a Senior in High School or college student currently enrolled in a college or technical school pursuing a college degree with a GPA of at least 2.5.
5. Applicant must have a sincere commitment to pursuing furthering their education by attending college, technical school, or school of trade.
6. A photo of the applicant should be uploaded to this application.
7. Scholarship payment will be used solely for tuition fees and/or books or school supplies.
8. The scholarship recipients will be chosen by a by the Scholarship Committee which will consist of a representative of the Martha Thullen family if available, the Mahoning County Goat Committee, and the Mahoning County Junior Fair Advisory Committee.
PLEASE PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING BY JUNIOR FAIR ENTRY DAY:
1. Completed application.
2. Certified copy of high school/college transcripts verifying a minimum 2.5 GPA uploaded into the scholarship form.
3. Three letters of reference: 1 from a club advisor, 1 from an academic advisor and one from another person such as a coach, teacher, youth advisor, employer, etc. References cannot come from family members.
