  • NADSP Virtual Training - The Importance of Reflecting on Direct Support Skills as a Daily Practice

    Tuesday, August 13, 2024 12:00pm – 2:00pm ET
  • Session Description

Direct support professionals engage daily with individuals, providing crucial assessments, crisis prevention, and support for health and wellness, among other skill-based actions. Often, these tasks are performed without adequate reflection on their inherent competence. It is essential for professionals to regularly connect their actions with their professional mission and role through reflection.

Our certification process inherently requires direct support professionals to reflect on their ethical decisions. Each work sample submitted for credit prompts an explanation of how it aligns with the NADSP Code of Ethics, integral to the receiving certification and recognizing competency.

This virtual training aims to explore how direct support professionals and frontline supervisors can effectively utilize the NADSP Code of Ethics and competencies as tools for ongoing reflection and evaluation beyond credentialing. Continuous self-reflection is crucial for professional evolution and growth. Using the NADSP Code of Ethics and direct support skills as benchmarks for professional development not only benefits professionals but also enhances outcomes for the individuals they support and contributes to their own job satisfaction.
