  • The National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) has entered into an agreement with the State of New York’s, Office  for  People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), whereby grants have been established to provide human service organizations with the opportunity for their employees to pursue the NADSP E-Badge Academy.

    This project will allow a limited number of New York organizations that employ direct support professionals (DSPs) and Frontline Supervisors (FLSs) to offer some of their staff the  opportunity to achieve credentialing through NADSP, without having to pay its  associated costs during the grant period. The grant extends tentatively from October 2022 through March 2025.

    Throughout the grant period, NADSP will select organizations representing a total of approximately 800 complimentary E-Badge Academy ‘seats’ annually. As part of the grant, participating DSPs will be able to advance through NADSP’s three levels of certification and, upon completion, will quality for up to $2,250 in total bonuses through a tiered bonus structure. Frontline Supervisors that achieve FLS certification are eligible to receive a bonus of $1,000.

    The requirements for achieving NADSP Credential involve attaining Accredited Education E-Badges through completion of NADSP-approved online training programs. The grant will also compensate participating agencies for the training hours that DSPs and FLSs must dedicate to are required to achieve for accredited education E-Badges. NADSP will reimburse provider organizations for the training hours required to achieve each level of certification. (Up to $1500 for DSPs and $500 for FLS).

    Eligibility Requirements

    To qualify for participation in this pilot project, organizations must meet the following criteria:

    • New York State based organizations, with only DSPs working in NYS being able to participate 

    • Provide services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)

    • Demonstrate a history of workforce development and sustained support of DSPs (e.g. credentialing program, tuition assistance, etc.)

    • Current access to a NADSP-accredited training program.

    • Prepared to support a suggested minimum of 20 DSPs and/or frontline supervisors during the first year.

    • Collect and provide basic participation and outcome data (e.g., turnover, retention, and wages) to the evaluation team as requested 

    • Participation in the annual NCI Staff Stability Survey and NYS OPWDD Consolidated Fiscal Report

    In order to be considered for the project, organizations must complete the following Request for Proposal (RFP) application form. The deadline for completing this form is September 30, 2022. Following the application deadline, a NADSP stakeholder advisory group will review applications and make its selections of the organizations that will participate in the grant project. In mid October 2022, the NADSP will announce its selections and begin onboarding activities for E-Badge Academy organization administrators and training for DSPs and FLSs.

    Please note: Organizations in New York State that are already enrolled in the E-Badge Academy are eligible to take part in this grant project and are encouraged to apply. If selected, those organizations will be reimbursed for their remaining E-Badge Academy fees and currently certified DSPs and FLSs will be offered bonuses for their existing certifications, limited to their allotted seats that are covered through this pilot project.
