Professional Standards

The Professional Standards department administers three major processes.

• Ethics
• Mediation
• Arbitration

Although most real estate transactions are completed smoothly, the need for dispute resolution occasionally occurs. The Professional Standards department is an important resource for you should you have any questions or concerns regarding the Code of Ethics, its enforcement, mediation and arbitration.

Filling Out An Ethics Complaint Form

You Have Chosen To File An Ethics Complaint

To file a complaint you will need to complete and assemble the following documents and submit them to the Professional Standards Department.

Ethics Complaint Form Narrative / summary of events stating why you believe your allegations support a violation of the Code of Ethics.

Any additional information that you feel supports your case.

Next We Will Help You Fill Out The ETHICS COMPLAINT FORM

Congratulations, you have completed filling out the Ethics Complaint form.

Next we will give you the opportunity to add a brief description (Narrative) of the circumstances that caused you to file this complaint. Afterwards you can submit the forms to the Professional Standards Department.

Mediation

You have chosen to file for Mediation.

To file you will need to complete both the REQUEST FOR MEDIATION and AGREEMENT TO MEDIATE forms and submit them to NSBAR's Professional Standards Department.

Mediation

 Arbitration

You have chosen to file an Arbitration Request form.

To file you will need to complete a REQUEST AND AGREEMENT TO ARBITRATE form and submit it to the Professional Standards Department.

A dispute arising out of the real estate business as defined by Article 17 of the Code of Ethics exists between me (or my firm) and (list all persons/or firms you wish to name as respondents to this arbitration).

(NOTE: Arbitration is generally conducted between REALTORS® [principals] or between firms comprised of REALTOR® principals. Naming a REALTOR® [principal] as Respondent enables the Complainant to know who will participate in the hearing from the Respondent’s firm; naming a firm may increase the likelihood of collecting any resulting award.)

*Complainants may name one or more REALTOR® principals or a firm comprised of REALTOR® principals as Respondent(s). Or, Complainants may name REALTOR® principals and firms as Respondents.
