Thanks to the generosity of community donors and sponsors, the NYSPHSAA Foundation is proud to offer annual grant opportunities to schools and partner organizations. The Foundation is presently focusing efforts towards increasing student participating opportunities, coaches professional development, and the recruitment and retention of sports officials. In order to maximize the value of our funding, programs and projects must be sustainable through future budgets and/or provide a lasting impact. Grant funds may be used to expand existing programs through innovative improvements or develop new ones.
The NYSPHSAA Foundation is accepting applications from member schools and interscholastic athletics partner organizations. Our hope is that these grants will help you improve the experience for the students, coaches, and officials in your area.
Grant amounts will depend on available funds raised each year. We are currently able to award grants up to $1,000.
Grant Application Criteria
• Applications must be submitted at least 90 days prior to funding need.
• Applicant must provide a detailed list of how the grant will be used.
• Signature from a Chief School Officer or Superintendent is required for the application to be considered.
• Photos are required if requesting funds to be used toward equipment or facility upgrades.
• Grant recipients will be required to complete an evaluation following completion.
Grant Restrictions
Grants will not be issued for the following:
• Funds to start a new sport or program without the commitment by the School Board to sustain the program.
• Recurring annual expenses or expenses normally covered by other means (e.g. travel expenses, officials fees, etc).
• Team awards, parties, banquets, etc.
• Direct monetary, equipment, or resource donations by a school to an outside organization.
• Purchases made in the past.
• More than one grant issued per school per year.
Grant Approval Considerations
• Has the applicant clearly communicated a need, and does the proposal identify specifically how the need will be addressed?
• How many students will be impacted by the funding?
• What are the long-term benefits to the school’s program(s)/students?
• What other sources for funding have been explored and requested?
• What will be the lasting impact of this grant?
All applications will be reviewed and evaluated quarterly by the Board of Directors and NYSPHSAA Foundation Director. Applicants will receive a response pertaining to their application as soon as is reasonably possible.
