  • Nightfever is a night of prayer where faithful young adults, standing outside of Saint Mary's Cathedral Basilica, offer simple invitations to people passing by to take a candle, light it inside, and offer a prayer for themselves or for someone they love. Nightfever is hosted by Young Adults of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth. Nightfever happens from 7-9:30pm at Saint Mary's Cathedral Basilica in Downtown Halifax. All are welcome

  • Your Information

  • We will be having a training session at 6:15pm on the day of the event ({selectAn}) so that everybody is comfortable in their roles. In particular, we need lots of people to fill the Outreach teams. These invitations on the street are the key element of Nightfever so we hope everybody gives it at least one half-hour. God Bless!

    Outreach (Mission) Teams
Outreach Teams are the key element of Nightfever. These volunteers stand outside the Church with a basket of candles and simply invite those passing by to come in and light a candle. "Hi, would you like to light a candle? There's music in the Church, you can come and stay as long or as little as you like." This role is all about joyfully welcoming people to take time out of their busy lives for a moment of peace, rest, and hopefully encounter with Jesus Christ present in Adoration.

    Hospitality Team
Our Hospitality Teams are teams of two people who are at the entrance of the Church. They joyfully greet people as they come in, help direct them to the front and answer any questions or give instructions, and make sure they feel welcome. Many people haven't come into the Church for many years, so having some friendly guidance is very helpful! If there is confession, hospitality teams can help direct people towards confession.

    Security Team
As Catholics, we give special reverence to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. At Nightfever, we always have Eucharistic Adoration. Since many people entering the Church don't know much about Christian faith, we want to make sure there is somebody near the front in case there are any questions, etc. This is also the security of the altar (making sure people don't accidentally wander around the sacred spaces). This role also supervises the candles, making sure everything is being done safely. This role will also monitor the door to make sure no incidents arise. Some assets for individuals signing up for Security are Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training and De-escalation training. You must be comfortable asking folks to leave and escorting folks out of the church if required. Dress Code: Suit and Tie

    Intercessory Prayer
This is one of the most important aspects of the night! We want 3 people at all times to be praying and interceding for the night. We know only God will change hearts, and so we ask for his grace and blessing upon each and every person who enters. These 3 people also make a point to sit near the front, or even kneel before the altar. This helps our guests know that it is a holy space, but also that they are welcome to stay near the front of the Church and pray as long as they like. These people will also keep an eye on the Sanctuary to make sure everyone is being respectful.
